Xiaomi’s push into the electric vehicle space is going far better than anyone predicted a year ago. The company’s YU7 SUV didn’t just sell well — it
climbed straight into the top tier of the Chinese EV market. Fresh October 2025 retail data shows Xiaomi delivering 48,654 EVs overall, and the YU7 alone made up 33,662 of those. That number is significant for one simple reason: analysts say it topped domestic
Tesla Model Y deliveries for the same month, ending a streak that felt almost uTesla Model Yntouchable.
Since the
YU7 started shipping in July, total deliveries have already moved past 70,000 units. For a company that was still known as “the phone maker that’s trying EVs,” this is a dramatic shift. Right now, Xiaomi sits comfortably among the biggest local EV names — and it’s only been a few months.
Performance Range: From Quick to Downright Wild
The YU7’s architecture has been one of the talking points from day one. It uses an 800V silicon-carbide high-voltage system, and Xiaomi offers a pretty broad lineup. The entry-level 2WD version runs a single motor with 235 kW and 528 Nm. It’s already quick: 0–100 km/h in 5.88 seconds.
Things get more interesting as you move up. The 4WD dual-motor variants go up to 365 kW and 690 Nm, cutting that time to 4.27 seconds. But it’s the top-spec YU7 Max that draws the attention of anyone who likes numbers. With 508 kW and 866 Nm, it hits 100 km/h in 3.23 seconds — absurd for a family-sized SUV and very on-brand for China’s high-performance EV wave.
Battery Options and Very Fast Charging
Xiaomi split the lineup into two battery technologies. The 2WD and mid-tier 4WD models use a 96.3-kWh LFP pack, with a CLTC rating of up to 835 km. The performance-focused 4WD version switches to a 101.7-kWh NMC battery, delivering about 760 km of range.
The YU7 Max also supports extremely fast charging at 5.2C. Xiaomi says the vehicle can jump from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes, or reclaim around 620 km in 15 minutes. Even with the usual “CLTC optimism,” that’s genuinely impressive, especially for long-distance drivers.
Safety Upgrades: A Big OTA Push
Xiaomi isn’t treating safety features as a static list. The company rolled out a major update — Xiaomi HyperOS 1.11 — across the whole YU7 lineup. The updated HAD Enhanced driver-assist package brings a few significant additions.
The most notable is the new low-speed automatic emergency braking system. It now works at just 1 km/h going forward and up to 30 km/h in reverse, stepping in if the car detects pedestrians, vehicles, scooters, or even stationary obstacles like pillars and garage walls. It’s aimed squarely at everyday situations where small mistakes can get expensive quickly.
Parking assistance also gets a boost with Mis-Acceleration Inhibition (MAI). If the car senses you hit the accelerator instead of the brake while reversing — something that happens more often than drivers admit — the system cuts power and applies the brakes automatically.
Highway driving gains Emergency Steering Assistance (AES), active between 80 and 135 km/h. AES kicks in when heavy braking won’t prevent a collision but there’s room to steer around the obstacle. According to Xiaomi, the system can execute up to two rapid evasive movements, covering everything from pedestrians to cars crossing your lane.
Crystal Purple: A Limited Edition to Mark the Moment
To celebrate the YU7’s climb past Tesla, Xiaomi unveiled a new limited-run color option at the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show — Crystal Purple. It’s the first step in Xiaomi’s plan to offer 100 custom paint finishes over the next three years.
The special colors start at around €1,310, and buyers can pair them with matching alloy wheels, colored Brembo calipers, and a few high-end finishes like ceramic black/white or gold carbon fiber. The wildest option — and the one undeniably designed for social media — is the 24K gold finish.
Xiaomi is treating personalization the way smartphone makers treat case collections: an easy way to let customers stand out without waiting for a yearly refresh.
