Mogu S1 is the world’s cheapest 5-inch phablet at $48!

Chinese phone maker Mogu have announced it plans to launch the world’s cheapest 5-inch Android phablet priced at just 299 Yuan ($48)!

5-inch Android smartphones are now easier to find that more compact 4-inch options, but despite the number of options consumers have to choose from there aren’t many 5-inch phones available for people on a limited budget!

But that is all about to change thanks to the Mogu S1! Mogu are well known in China for making some of the most affordable touch screen phones in the business, but the 5-inch S1 sets an all new standard!

Gizchina News of the week

Based on a Samsung Galaxy design, the S1 will feature a 5-inch WVGA 800 x 480 display, single-core 1Ghz CPU, 2 mega-pixel rear camera, VGA front, Bluetooth, GPS Wifi and a 2000mAh battery!

No word on whether the S1 will offer dual-sim support, or if the phone will come with ICS or JB, but for less than $50 it really doesn’t matter!

Will have ropey performance, but damn, for $50 you really can’t complain as long as it’s got a nice screen an and a good battery

    I guess that’s a MTK6573 with 256MB of ram?

I made a thread about this on the MoDaCo forums! I’m sure some people on a budget wouldn’t mind having a backup phone to play with and hack. Thanks Robin for the info 🙂

As long as it has 3G, its a winner at the price.

Two and a half years ago, I bought a slightly lower spec phone (FG8) – 3.8inch, 800Mhz, for $180!! This phone could easily outperform my FG8. The FG8 GPS is incredible – way better than my UMI X1 with a updated antenna. Now, I dont use my FG8, but only as a GPS devise! The accuracy on GPS is 2 feet! as compared to my UMI X1, at best 20 feet.

I own a $55 7″ Tablet and it does most of the tasks you need with Android but it lacks good optics/low screen resolution and viewing angles + no back camera + battery sucks
I thought that could satisfy my test but it does not.

For serious Android users, a more expensive model from china could be a wise decision

    Yes you can!
