If there was ever a phone to blur the lines between Android smartphones and tablets, it is the mysterious 7-inch Coolpad 9976A rumoured to launch this month!

This is the second time the Coolpad 9976A has appeared on our radar, the first time being at the launch of the 8-core Mediatek processor a few months ago, where we believed the 7-inch ‘phone’ would be on display for the first time.

Sources at CoolPad are now teasing at a launch of January 8th for this huge device which CoolPad insist on calling a phone/phablet rather than a tablet.

Gizchina News of the week

Measuring 7-inch and with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 the 9976A dwarfs the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 which will also launch this month, but offers higher resolution. The Coolpad also gets a 1.7Ghz MT6592 8-core processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB of built-in memorym dual SIM, 13 mega-pixel main camera, 5 mega-pixel front, NFC, 4000mAh battery and measures just 7.6mm thick!

What do you think of the idea of a 7-inch ‘phone’, is it just what the doctor ordered? or it this really just too big?

Support for stylus, MHL and at least 16GB and it would be a perfect all-in-one.

I am doubting if its gonna get a HDMI. 7 inches is just too huge for me. I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 and I have to say that it looks stupid to answer calls with the huge device without a BT headset. That said, I am definitely not buying this for a phone no matter no matter what hardware it packs.

Unless I intend to use it as a tablet, then is a go. But I’d rather buy a 10 incher for a tablet instead. Considering to give my fiance the Galaxy Tab 3

It does look silly when held to the ear. Use a blue tooth head set. I don’t do a lot of phone talking, it is great for web browsing, text and other computer uses without pulling out the big Notebook. I can certainly see more on the big screen than the small phone screens. I too wish it had a built in stylus, I like to play with it. I also wish it was capable of HDMI. Bezels keep getting smaller. This 7″ phone may not be as big as 6″ phone was a year or so ago.
