GrapheneOS Expands Beyond Pixel: Motorola Signature 27 to Get Full Support

GrapheneOS is a phone operating system built for privacy and safety. For years, it only worked on Google Pixel phones. That is now changing. Yesterday, the GrapheneOS team announced on X that the Motorola Signature 27 will be supported. It is the first non-Pixel phone to get official support.

This news comes after a deal made at MWC 2026. Now, the results are finally here.

Why just Pixel?

GrapheneOS was locked to Pixel phones for simple tech reasons. To work well, the system needs three key hardware features:

Memory Tagging Extension (MTE): A hardware tool that stops memory bugs.
A Secure Element: A special chip that guards key user data.
Bootloader Control: The option to unlock the phone and lock it back up safely.

Until now, only Google Pixel phones had all three features at once. Brands like Samsung and Xiaomi lacked the full set of security tools.

Why the Motorola Signature 27 now?

The new Motorola phone qualifies because of its Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip. This chip offers full hardware support for MTE.

The phone also brings high-end specs. It has a 50MP main camera, a 200MP zoom lens, and a crisp Dolby Vision screen. It comes in two Pantone colors: Coal Smoke and Capulet Olive.

Shown on September 22 at the Snapdragon Summit, this will be the first phone to run GrapheneOS on top-tier Qualcomm hardware.

What Users Get

GrapheneOS protects your data at every level. It removes Google apps by default. If you still want Google apps, you can run them in a safe, locked box called a sandbox. This stops apps from seeing your private files without ask.

You get total control over your phone without trusting the maker. Future Motorola models will also follow these strict safety rules.

We do not know yet how GrapheneOS will land on the phone. It may come pre-installed, as a free download, or as a double-boot choice. But Motorola promises seven years of software updates, which gives the phone a bright future.

This is big news. For the first time, privacy fans have a real choice outside of Google hardware.
