Confirmed: The OnePlus One has a 5.5-inch display!

oneplus one screen

Just moments ago Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus announced the display size and resolution of the OnePlus One smartphone.

Unsurprisingly OnePlus have chosen a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 display rather than a 2K panel which many fans had been hoping for. The display comes from JDI (Japan Display Inc) featuring TOL (touch on lens) modules eliminating the distance between sensor and panel, while maintaining strength. The 5.5-inch TOL panel on the OnePlus One is said to be 300% for shatterproof than an OGS display.

Energy efficiency is also on the cards and the screen comes equipped with CABC and DRAM technology providing a bright and vivid panel but one which uses less power than a regular 5-inch 1080p display.

Those of you who are worried that a 5.5-inch display is just to big should check out the picture above. Apparently OnePlus have managed to made a 5.5-inch phone which is the same size as a 5-inch phone! The image above shows a OnePlus One phone (or rather doesn’t) underneath a Sony Xperia Z1!

So as they stand the tech specs for the OnePlus One are a Snapdragon 800 processor, 3100mAh battery and 5.5-inch 1080 display!

What do you guys think of the OnePlus One so far?

    wow that amazing

now i wonder how they manage upper and bottom bezel

it’s possible because 5.2 inch has same size with xperia z, if g2 extend display to its buttom bezel it could have 5.5 inch without extend its size

you shouldn’t have to wonder. they should just show a photo of the device already!

The gionee elife e7 has almost the same dimensions as the xperia z1 and with the same 5.5-inch screen and a layer of gorilla glass 3 on it.

Z1 is a big 5 inch phone. And we’re not seeing how tall the OnePlus One will be…

Not quite what I was hoping for but it is at least getting interesting again, hope it’s almost bezel- less.

So it just feels like a 5″ phone ?

It’s more like Z1 feels like a 5.5incher. Sony phones are known for being big and unrully, a large beautiful piece of slab that has exchanged looks for substance, unfortunately everybody else is following Sony’s example in this generation.

      • March 12, 2014

Yeah, what we’re forgetting here is that the Sony is water and dust proof (which the One is not) which doesn’t really help the footprint much.

    Wow… That is awesome.

    • March 11, 2014

What exactly is awesome? They showed a photo of a Sony phone, then told us that the screen would be lower resolution than expected.

      • March 12, 2014

        I expected 1080

They gonna sell this phone in Europe?

Inttal. launch, online store, I guess.

Cool! And the price gonna be the same, something like 300 euros, or it’s gonna be 1:1 conversion? I really hope they follow the example of OPPO.

They say less than USD399, so, yes! (add transport, and I hope not VAT)

Están comentando 399 dólares, que hoy día andan por debajo de los 300 euros… es casi un robo con esas características (teniendo en cuenta los precios de la competencia).

i’m tired of the teasing. Let’s see the phone and full specs already! At lease then we could get all the rationalizations about why a Snapdragon 800 is better than an 805, and why 1080p is better than 1440p, etc., at the same time.

So far, the only thing not-2013 about it is the multi-band LTE.

One thing is for certain, they aren’t building an Uberphone.

Definitely, not überphones out there under USD400, go look for yourself.

They should have shown the entire length of the phone.
The pic shown makes me ponder if the One Plus is longer than the Sony thats supposedly laying on top of it!
If its not a Dual Sim then its not going to be an aquisition for me.

Kings of hype, got my attention! 😛

Last December, Jack Wong of Meizu said the MX4 would achieve the same thing: a 5.4″ (Meizu doesn’t do 16:9) screen in the approximate shell of a 5.0″ phone. Actually, the current MX3 with a 5.1″ 15:9 screen is only 1mm wider than the Xperia Z1 with a 5.0″ 16:9 screen. It’s doable, in other words, and it’s not unique. “Kings of hype” indeed.

People acting all pissed like there are other S800,3100 mAh phones for less $400. Go buy one then. Good luck

Wow, it seems really cool. 2K wasn’t necessary for me. I hope it’s worth waiting for!
