Borderless Vivo X5 to launch April named the Vivo Xplay

Rumours of BBK’s borderless Vivo X5 are back in the news today after sources close to the company revealed the new phone could be named the Vivo XPlay and will launch as early as May.

Vivo currently have a number of well made Android phones on sale in China, with the current flagship model being the Vivo X1 which measures in at just 6.55mm! The X1 will soon get updated to the dual-sim X1s, but will be relegated from flagship status as an all new 5-inch phone is on the way.

The next phone to come out of BBK’s factories is said to be the Vivo X5, a 5-inch 1080 Android smartphone and the world’s first borderless phone! The X5, which is currently known internally as the Vivo XPlay, will ship with a quad-core Mediatek MT6589 processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage and similar audio features as the X1.

The render above looks to be either an early design, or could be the Vivo X3 which we have yet to hear anything about, however we could see the X3 launch alongside the Vivo X5 as early as April!

Pricing isn’t going to be cheap though, with the Vivo X5 going on sale for 3298 Yuan ($529) more than the Oppo Find 5!

Pricey! For just a little bit more, I’d rather buy a better known brand. A Note II is only $75 more.

Exactly. For $75 more you can get a known brand, better 3G frequency support, a warranty in your own country, accessory support, and LTE.

There’s simply no way I am paying more than $300 on an MTK6589 phone, or any phone without LTE for that matter (Nexus 4).

I agree. This price is well into latest gen Snapdragon models, and getting very close to big brand names. Any MTK based phone over $250 is expensive and have no interest on it.

Yeah! Who’s drug habbits are we supporting here anyway with these lousy prices?! Most of the economy around the world is struggling at present. Manufacturers and parts suppliers should lower they’re profit margins to remain more competitive with the rest of the market in this weakend economy. by doing so they would remain more attractive with larger 1080 p screens, hi resolution rear cameras, quad core processors, 2 gigs of ram and adequate storage to name a few fantastic improvements. They’re definitely heading in the right direction but if the prices on these type of phones coming out of China Star to reflect the same pricing of let’s say the Galaxy Note 2 then it’s worthless to me, you’re back in the same boat as everybody else. The most likely reason that anybody would buy a phone from China to use in the US is because the price is so good and now to add with it the specs are great as well, so keep the price down and you will see more units being sold.

This. Such a small bezel and if the price was reasonable(i.e. like 1200-1500rmb) you’d be selling these by the kilo!
