Xiaomi Mi3 appears again this time from the rear and it isn’t 5.5-inch

If reports are current there is only 5 weeks until the Xiaomi Mi3 launches, and as can be expected leaks are cropping up more frequently than a rusty old barge!

This morning we posted photos of a very angular Xiaomi Mi3 which is reported to have 3GB RAM and a 5.5-inch 1080 display! Just hours on and another leaked photo shows the rear of the phone next to the Xiaomi Red rice, giving us a sense of scale for the first time!

Gizchina News of the week

The Xiaomi Red Rice is a mystery low-end phone which Xiaomi may or may not launch. This budget handset will be powered by a 1.5Ghz MT6589T quad-core processor, with a 4.7-inch display. Now, if we look at the white Xiaomi Mi3 rear next to the Red Rice we can see the size isn’t much bigger! Count the Xiaomi Mi3 be a 5-inch 1080 phone after all?

To us it seems strange that Xiaomi would jump from 4.3-inch on their current Mi2S to 5.5-inch on the Mi3, however it could easily happen. What do you guy’s want to see? a 5-inch 1080 Mi3 or a 5.5-inch phablet?

These leaked photos come courtesy of Punkpanda, the same tipster who leaked the Xiaomi Tablet photo!

Looks more like 5.3 or 5.5 inch if you ask me.
The difference between 5.0 and 4.0 can’t be that much

      July 10, 2013

      5.0 and 4.7 I mean.. My bad 🙂

  3. July 10, 2013

5 inch is about as big as a guy can shove in his pockets imho, 5.5 just tips it into something that will require a bag, I.E. not such a mobile phone!

ladies is a different story, they can’t fit the 4.3 xiaomi m2s into thier pockets anyhow.

but i whould defenetly like a 5 and not a 5.5 inch display.

Not sure what it’s like in the rest of the world but Asian women always go for a large phablet device

      • July 10, 2013

I can attest to that, woman generally don’t have problem lugging around phablet with their handbag here in Asia.

        • July 10, 2013

lol, my GF just stash her SGS2 in my pocket everytime we go out, it doesn’t even fit in her small lady bag 😛

          • July 10, 2013

I would call that purse 😛

        SIZE does matter??? 😉

      July 10, 2013

Yeah i’m with you on that one. My girlfriend find her Xiaomi mi2s too big to carry in her pockets. she either carry it in her bag or leave it at home, which infuriates me hahaha.

they either go for the big size 5+ screen which is bag only, or small like 4 inch .

Yes please 4.7″ or 5″ but no bigger. Thankyou.

  5. July 10, 2013

It would make sense if they cater to two different crowd like samsung and their s and note lines. The S line outsell Note line after all, the market is still huge on people who don’t want an overly big “phone”.

    5.0, S800, 3GB RAM, 64GB, 36000mAh, just too perfect

    • July 10, 2013

i whould change the s800 for that new whoopping intel cpu! the one who hits 80k score on antutu

    • July 10, 2013

Intel BayTrail you mean….? That will be sweet… Guess we more closer to uncover that than ever.

What ever the case may be, S800 with 3600mAh will be cool. Beside, S800 isn’t bad for 2013, but for 2014, I’m sure Intel is gonna dominate.

  7. July 10, 2013

I like 4.5 inches phone with 1280 x 720 res and 1 GB ram enough, and cam must be 13 MP..and also phone with 6589 T (t is need) and with at least 2500 mAh battery..If OTG support it is awesome…. SOmeone please suggest me a phone with those info please..phone must not be big like Jiayu G3….

    I dislike red..

    • July 10, 2013

I have only seen it in red and blue. It’s not even sure they will launch it, and it probably wont have backlit buttons.

Some like it to be 5”, the others like it 5,5”, just compromise it, 5,3” not too big not to small?

      No

Its true, intel have just made their debut in the mobile processor (medfield n clovertrail dualcore), but they’ve showed a serious threat for nvidia n arm, they cant beat intel in terms of cpu and battery performance! Just wait for their quadcore beast!

      +1

Was just imagining BayTrail clocked at 1.1Ghz and scoring above 40k in antutu. Let just wait and see 🙁

5.5 is the perfect screen size if they really want to fight the top phones of samsung & the next of others brands.
I’m waiting the launch from long time ago because is supoused to have sd 800 and 5.5 inches.

    • Louisclub
      July 10, 2013

you are right, 5.5 is a good size, but only if they get rid of the side and top/bottom bezels (borders). take a 5inch phone, increase the screen size without increasing the overall size of the phone, and i’ll consider it. kinda like they did with the galaxy S3->S4.

indeed! if xiaomi wants to do a benchmark, they shouldnt aim just at apple anymore, iphone only sold well in us and canada? cmiiw, but they must see from the perspective of mobile os, android dominates the market at around 70-80%, and if we talk about android devices samsung is the king……look at their flagship device, the galaxy s series, starting from4″-4,3″-4,8″-4,99″, their note series from 5,3″-5,5″ the trend is getting bigger in screen size (but not too overly big), 5,5″ is not really that big…..a lot of people likes it, take a peek:

we are arguing about how the mi3 should look like, well here is a gut example:

      https://www.gizchina.com/2013/07/10/limited-edition-red-oppo-find-5-on-sale-soon-in-china/

nice design! the colour play is simply beautiful!

    • July 11, 2013

Samsung’s best selling phone isn’t even the Note line.

      • nero
        July 30, 2013

In hong kong it is. if you take a ride on the train, you will find that nearly everybody uses note 2, and I’m assuming that applies to china as well

  12. July 10, 2013

Andy , your post made my day.

nobody is talking about the round corner on this one. this means this is not the same device we saw in the picture yesterday with the angular corner.

my guess is that this one looks more like a mi3, and the sharp corner phone one the pic yesterday may be for another device (tablet, other phone, etc)

    • liljohn
      July 10, 2013

this one is nice, a bit curvy edge, the angular one looks stiff….

  14. liljohn
    July 10, 2013

super specs, the body of experia z, curvy edges of htc one, 5,5″ screen of sgnote2, the price of nexus 4……what else could u expect? availability!

mi3 body design should be like oppo find 5, nice!

Which I guess it means it will go head to head with the Nexus 5 🙂

    July 14, 2013

They are going head to head with many phones, Sony and LG are also releasing new phones in the upcoming months with Snapdragon 800 as CPU (if we believe those rumors).

For me it would be excellent solution that i have seen already on some photos – just extremely narrow bezel around the screen..It esealy can allow to make a phone with 5.5″ screen even smaller than some 4.3″ screen phone! I definitely buy it if theese photos are not rumor… It means to take much larger display in much less phone size than i have now… It’s just a dream!!
