Xiaocai Edge, first 8-core Mediatek MT6592 phone? 3D, 64GB and more!

The Xiaocai Edge is the working name of one of the first 8-core Mediatek MT6592 phones to go on sale later this year!

From reports on Chinese websties the Xiaocai Edge will be one of the first phones on the market to boast a 8-core MT6592 processor, and if previous phone are anything to go by it won’t cost the Earth either!

These photos show the Xiaocai Edge running a quad-core MT6589T 1.5Ghz chipset, but apparently this is just the youth version and the premium model won’t be released until the new 8-core chipset is available.

Gizchina News of the week

So what makes the 8-core Xiaocai Edge so special? Well the phone will come with a 1080 display, 13 megapixel main camera, offer OTG, NFC, HDMI and even a humidty sensor, thermometer and 6 axis gyroscope!

Of course that isn’t enough so Xiaocai are also claiming an OGS panel, naked eye 3D, 8 mega-pixel camera and 64GB of memory! We don’t know how much the Xiaocai Edge will go on sale for however they seem to be aiming for a release date of around October for the 8-core version!

RAM RAM RAM. Even my Nexus 4 gets RAM starved sometimes. 1GB just isn’t enough anymore.

If you read the article you would see that the photo is of a device running the very same MT6589T. There aren’t currently any benchmarks for the MT6592.

there are no confirmed benchmarks but it’s rumored to be around 30000

Hey Bruce, if u get a closer view of the ss of the benchmark, u will see cpu 1508Mhz (x4) means it’s the quad core MT6589T Procy and not the MT6592 Octa! We haven’t got a ss showing benchmarks of the octa but it is more than 30k on Antutu!

Hopefully the new cpu wont be a power hog.
All those nice sensors and hardware features are a great addition.

I think mediatek should upgrade its architecture now.
They are going for full octa not the samsung type dual-quad (its actually quad core only ) would be great if they could go for a15 in the same price. They get better performance. Who knows a A7 octa just might be next revolution :O.

They are using 8 A7 cores that work at the same time to power the chipset. Seems really interesting, MediaTek might have a winner on their hands.

Yet the bear pro is available for like 250$ and has a snapdragon 600.

Maybe it will be 8 full cores, power optimized and running at 1GHz…

Maybe 4×1.5ghz + 4×1.0ghz, the important factor of having an octo core is to save power, at lease that’s what it should be. Chinese may have a different idea. Only they know, but it kind of defeats the purpose of going with A7 technology.
