Video: Neo N003 takes an electric drill to the screen and survives!

The Neo N003 is still in limited supply across China, however customers must be happy with the build to the point they are testing the screen strength with an electric drill!

When the final specifications of the Neo N003 were announced we were all very impressed with the hardware and built-in features like MHL and OTG, but it was a bit of a shame that the phone lacked a Gorilla Glass display. After watching the video below however, we think you will agree the Noo3’s screen is plenty strong!

Gizchina News of the week

If you don’t have time to watch the video it basically involves the Neo N003 being subjected to the drill end of a Dremel type handheld drill and coming away completely unscathed! Very impressive!

I do not trust this honestly..because drills can even drill metals too…and even wood…How can a plastic strong like this even without gorilla or ashai glass ???

maybe the drilling rod not rotating, but rotate motor working, rot not fitted tightly to rotate with motor..I do not trust this.

Yeah i don’t trust this either, plus he’s moving the drill all over the place and probably not applying enough pressure. Still fairly impressive all the same. It was my impression that the neo had dragontrail glass though right ? So it should be comparable to gorilla glass 2

The drillhead movement is probably enough to simulate real life situation in a pocket so while I take this video with a healthy dose of salt it’s not really impossible.

The real question however if the mass production model will have the same glass as this one.

He should have tested the drill on smthng really hard (let’s say cheese) before apply the same amount of force on that little beauy.

Talking about cutting edge technology nevertheless.

Great phone btw and even greater price. 🙂

Yeah, it seems to me that the drill bit even bends a little while he moves it over the screen. Perhaps it is not made of metal but plastic.
But anyway, this is the phone I have already pre-ordered and waiting for and I like what I see!

Well he only puts on light pressure. You can see it on the ‘bleeding’ on the screen when he pushes a litlle bit harder.

looks legit to me , the precesion of the drill bit and wobble are consistant with it turning while he applies enough pressure to distort the LCD below. The caveat being it was probably a ball end bit , not a drill bit. still waiting patiently on mine .

The phone has Asahis Glass mates!

Frankly, all this is not needed; nor does it impress me. What they can do to sell their phones is to give ONE release date and actually release the phones on that date.

they only ever gave 2 release dates, first was 25th f june, then they delayed by 1 month for cpu upgrading (worth the wait if you ask me). the dates given away by other fan-based websites or “rumors” from “officials” without any confirmation arent really their fault

I’ve just received word from lightake that they wont have the premium phones with them on the 25th July but the youth version will be available which they offered me but if I dont get what I paid for I want a full refund. I suspect the problem could be lightake because theyve removed the listing for the premium version, so I suggest anyone who ordered with them get in contact with them. This was supposed to be my Birthday present does anyone know a good place to order the premium version from?
