The HTC One, now in Gold!

Gold is the new black. Well, this is what seems to be going on in minds of smartphone manufacturers these days! HTC is the latest to join this league of gold-clad smartphones with their HTC One. This comes after we saw an array of flagships making an appearance in gold in the recent weeks.

This fetish for gold-clad smartphones is clear, with manufacturers like Apple (iPhone 5S Champagne), Vivo (X3), Xiaomi (Mi3 and Mi2S) going for gold with their flagship offerings.

However, should you choose to go with the 18-carat gold plated HTC One, you should prepare yourself to have a hole burnt in your pocket. The device will set you back by a whopping $4,400! Those on a more ‘tighter’ budget can look at the Gold HTC One offered by Goldgenie, with a cheaper price tag of about $2600.

Do you think gold-clad smartphones actually have a market, or are they a mere strategy by manufacturers to get attention?
