$179 Asus Chromebox set for March release


If you are in the market for a low-cost home PC then the Asus Chromebox could be a great contender which costs just $179!

Asus will launch their Chromebox in the US next month where the low-cost box will be able to connect to your existing monitor (TV) keyboard, mouse etc and operate as a Chrome OS desktop mini PC.

Three version of the small device will be available with options of either a Celeron 2955U processor, Intel Core i3-4010U or i7-4600U. Each version will have at least 2GB RAM and storage options from 16GB to 100GB.

The Asus Chromebox features a headphone jack, display port, HDMI out, 4 x USB 3.0, Ethernet, WIFI, Bluetooth 4.0 and measure in at just 4.88 x 4.88 x 1.65.

    I wonder if this would work with XBMC and essentially be an apple TV alternative to get free channels, sports, etc

    @Phil: i think a better/cheaper solution for a XBMC player is a Arm Dev Board like Udroid or Wandboard wich cost around 100$-130$.
