There has been a lot of confusion on the matter of Snapdragon 800 vs. 801.

Qualcomm has went out of their way to claim that the MSM8974-AB in Sony Xperia Z2 is classified under Snapdragon 801. I wonder now, what’s the difference between the Z2’s MSM8974-AB than the MSM8974-AB in, say, Xplay 3S or Samsung Galaxy Round? Would you also call them Snapdragon 801?

Also, the Mi3 uses MSM8274-AB, which, Qualcomm themselves claimed, has the exact same features and performance as MSM8974-AB (sans LTE). Wouldn’t this also mean that the processor in the Mi3 is already the ‘new’ Snapdragon 801?

Here is another spin: following Qualcomm’s own classification, it is likely that the SoC in OnePlus One (benchmark results pointed to it being MSM8974-AB) is ‘technically’ Snapdragon 801 as well.
