150,000 Redmi 1S units on sale midst shopping frenzy on Flipkart

Buyers couldn’t have enough of Xiaomi through the past couple of months in India, but it looks like the equation’s changed a bit now. Xiaomi put up a total of 150,000 units of the ‘Moto G killer’ Redmi 1S on sale.

It isn’t just the Redmi 1S that happens to be the talking point amongst the thousands of Indians who took to Flipkart today. The e-retailer is having a one-of-a-kind ‘The Big Billion Day’ where it hopes to get a lot of buyers to purchase products from the marketplace.

When I last checked at 4pm IST, the device was still in stock, after more than 7 hours since going on sale. This is in stark contradiction to the story until now, when the Redmi 1S failed to remain in stock for more than 5 seconds on most sale days.

Xiaomi also added to cart the Mi 3 to disconsolate buyers of the device who failed to hit the ‘add to cart’ button in time five times or more. Of course, not all of these devices are going to be sold, so it’s going to be interesting to see what Xiaomi does of the leftover stock now that it announced that it was the last time the Mi 3 went on sale.

Besides, a lot of other products are selling at discounted prices on Flipkart. Unfortunately, for many GizChina readers, Flipkart only ships to Indian addresses. You can take a look at what the buyers are enjoying here anyway – Flipkart.com.

Flipkart reported 100 mil $ in sales for the day but if you think about it the 150k Redmi and the 25k Mi3 are just over 20mil $ so a huge chunk of their total sales for the day and unlikely anyone else sold more than Xiaomi.
