Rumour has it that Meizu are working on a new low-cost phone and that the device will be released this month. With that in mind, is this Geekbench report from the new Meizu?
We know that Meizu are working closely with Mediatek these days to launch phones based on the latest processors from the Taiwanese chip maker. The Meizu MX4, for example, was the first to get a MT6595 chipset with built-in LTE and powerful performance.
The Mediatek link is believed to continue with the launch of a new low-cost machine from Meizu, which showed up in GFXbench recently. The new phone is believed to be part of a new entry-level line up from Meizu and not under the current MX4 range.
Gizchina News of the week
Although not confirmed to be the mystery Meizu, a phone did appear with an MT6752 8-core 64bit chipset yesterday on Geekbench. The details of the test show the phone runs Android 5.0, and show a strong multi-core score of 4260. For comparison sake the OnePlus One score just 2689 in the same tests running Lollipop too.
Whether this is the new Meizu or not remains to be seen, but what we do know is that even Mediatek’s mid-range chipsets are offering serious performance for 2015!

Whilst that’s great, do bear in mind that the single core performance is lower. Only programs/apps etc that can use all 8 cores simultaneously will benefit otherwise it probably won’t be as fast. On a positive though, its great to see Mediatek starting to make waves in the higher end of the smartphone market, can’t wait to see what else they have planned over the coming months!
I agree, great to see these numbers from MT. If they could just pair the cpu up with a better gpu or more cores then it would put the chip on a totally different level.
Most apps/games take advantage of more cores. They are probably are not 100% optimized but will have a higher performance than just using 2 or 4 cores.
