UMi Zero owners are once again lucky to get another firmware update for their alloy bodied phones.
UMi released UMi Zero update 3.06 to Zero owners this past Valentines day, The new update remains on Android 4.4.4, but brings with it a few updates:
Gizchina News of the week
- Touch-screen response has been modified.
- Touch Vibration customization has been added. (Settings=>Accessibility=>Vibration intensity)
- Japanese language has been added,
- Notification lights customization has been added (Setting=>Display=>Pulse notification lights)
- Camera autofocus has been improved
- MAC address problem has been fixed.
- Air-gesture function has been added
- Other small improvement has been added.
UMi ask that users should also clear data and perform a factory reset to avoid any potential problems. Looking at the comments on the official UMi Facebook page it seems must users have managed to resolve reboot issues with the most recent update after a clean install.

Don’t download ota-update.zip file. You need to download firmware and RENAME that zip file to “ota-update.zip”.

Hey but at least they’re trying lol. If you look at Chinese phones you’ll see a trend: most of their software is infested with bugs (and terrible English translations). I don’t know what it is, but certainly many of these bugs would not make it out of QA in the big brands. Maybe China has a different standard of software quality control. If that’s the case, I can’t blame them — it’s just so competitive there they don’t have the luxury of releasing stable software at the pace they’re operating in, so in effect we the consumers become their QA department after the phone is released into the wild. The forums act as help desk and issue ticketing software rolled into one. Maybe that is their concept of “community” ;).

I highly doubt any of the Chinese brands will be able to release good software because indeed; the market is too competitive. They do not have time for Quality Checks. But still, UMI said they would be different, they said the ZERO would be a new start, and yet it didn’t.

The Umi Zero is completely crap. Except for the used parts that have the right specifications the software makes it completely unusable. Its more of a prototype. Not a product that should be on the market. If you want something that works. Don’t buy a Umi.. If you are a nerd and dont mind that 50% of the features don’t actually work than buy a umi and you will have something interesting to talk about all the time. Namely the big surprize about how stupid the phone is even having all this nice specifications. GPS wont work good enough for car nav in any car, Bluetooth only works sometimes and the reboots were the worst pain in the ass. The 3.03 even had a malfunctioning in the screen lock that usually just didnt work. It made screenshots all day long and sound quality is modest, the videos recorded with the phone wont play back without pausing all the time. Looks like its too slow to even play the videos it recorded itself and that while technically it should be quick enaugh to playback and record 4k. What it dousnt support obviously… No… This Phone is crap.. It looks and feels good. In my case the screen just unglued itself. Caused bu excessive heat while charging and using it for watching a movie in the same time.. Yes.. You can watch a movie.. But dont charge it in the same time.. It will overheat and shut down.. LOL.. The list goed on but Ill stop.. I have my second Umi and it still sucks.. No more Umi. And you mist be fucking out of your mind buying it only because it looks good. LOL. Next time I will buy a samsung or is there any China phone that really works properly?? Any suggestions?

GPS: During the Tests, the GPS signal of this device, revealed an accuracy of 20 meters, which makes it unusable for car navigation.
BATTERY: In many cases and depending on the firmware used, the battery showed excessive drain, while in other cases it has been expanded, pushing the back cover up to detach it from the device.
ASSEMBLY: In many cases, it comes with assembly problems, mainly related to the back cover.
At this point I (and other users) would like to ask a question to UMI, hoping to get an answer.
Are you willing to improve the overall performance of this device, or you want to create a precedent that could penalize your market with the sales of other UMI devices??
