Xiaomi Yi Action Camera launched to rival GoPro

xiaomi yicamera

What costs $64 and can be strapped to the back of your cat? That’s right, Xiaomi’s Yi Action Camera that hopes to unsettle GoPro in China.

The Yi is a compact Action camera made by the same partner who created Xiaomi’s Yi home camera and will connect to Xiaomi devices via a dedicated application. For the $64 asking prices Xiaomi have offered some nice features including a 16 mega-pixel Sonly Exmor R camera which can record video at 1080 HD at 60fps.

Weighing only 72grams the little camera can also be taken to a depth of 40 meters underwater, yet doesn’t appear to come with a protective casing like GoPro’s offerings.

Xiaomi are offering two bundles of the Yi camera staring from 399 Yuan for the camera along, or 499 for the camera and selfie rod. International availability isn’t likely at this time so watch for resellers selling the camera.

Xiaomi stop adding products to my wishlist!! :D:D

Anyone knows something about compatibility to Go Pro accessories??
I can assume they match 100% but just want to make sure.

It all depends on the dimensions of the Xiaomi action cam. Even if the dimensions are not the same, you can count that Chinese companies will make a alternative case and sell it online, just like the many Gopro accesoires.you can see online on many Chinese webshops.

Xiaomi does not sell it outside China, so you basically have to rely on resellers, it is going to cost most likely between 90 and 100 US dollar on third parties websites.

My thoughts exactly, I have the SJ4000 WiFi edition that I use for Motocross and it’s a fantastic bit if kit which fits all the GoPro mounts too, I wonder how this Xiaomi variant compares…

    “16 mega-pixel Sonly Exmor R”
Is it a clone of the real Sony Exmor Chip?!

answering my own question here 🙂 To make it waterproof Xiomi are selling a case. Not sure if this is supplied ‘in the box’ or its an optional extra. would be nice to see what comes supplied for the price. The SJ4000wifi may still be a better option..?

It’s a really durable camera that’s light and can be used in many ways, from practical uses like snapping a photo of your family on vacation, to outrageous things like recording yourself swimming with whale sharks, and even silly things like attaching it to your cat. They’re also fantastic when paired with quadcopters.

Awesome news! I sold my SJ4000 hoping to replace it with SJ5000+ but there are so many issues with it, and now suddenly such huge manufacturer as Xiaomi enters the game as an alternative. Hopefully it forces SJCAM to update their SJ line with larger battery and iron out the software bugs so there is actual competition on market.
