Gionee Elife E8 rumours begin, what to expect from Gionee’s next flagship?

Since the release of their Elife E7 Gionee have been quiet on the flagship front and mainly worked on slim devices like the newly released S7, but they haven’t packed in the flagship fight and a new Elife E8 is rumoured to release soon.

As Gionee own IUNI, there have been suggestions that perhaps the two brands had decided to work on different markets. Gionee focussing on the fashion and more consumer orientated devices, while IUNI worked on the high-end stuff. It has certainly looked this too with Gionee releasing 3 phones in the past year including two flagships!.

Gizchina News of the week

Today’s news reports something different though, and claims Gionee haven’t thrown in the towel yet. Reports are that a new model , the Gionee Elife E8 will be announced in the coming weeks.

From Chinese news reports the Gionee Elife E8 will come with a 20 mega-pixel Sony sensor, and will be powered by a Mediatek MT6795 chipset rather than a Qualcomm unit. We also have it on very good authority that the E8 will feature a rear facing touch ID fingerprint scanner and from the rear will appear similar to the IUNI U3. Screen size is up too, with an estimate being that Gionee are going for a device between 5.7 and 6-inch.

This is sounding pretty good, there’s been some killer phones coming out this year but it’s getting harder to choose a new phone.

      will it be cheap?

Definitely not, its Gionee! If you wait 12 months or so for them to cut the price like they have the E7 it could be a great deal. For me, once the price enters the $300-400 range I would only consider Vivo.

Where are you finding Vivo phones for $3-400?

I never said they were that price, its rare to find one of their top models less then $400 (from reputable seller). I was making the point that if I were to spend that sort of money on a phone I would pay a little more and get a vivo.

Personally I think Vivo’s are incredibly overpriced for what they offer. Other than the Xshot none of them are worth the price tag. I would rather buy a Xiaomi or Meizu if I am going to spend over $300.

Yes Vivo are overpriced, however the Meizu MX4 pro has mediocre sound/camera according to reviews and is no cheaper than a Vivo. The Xiaomi note pro is between $550-600 so more expensive than the Xshot and Xplay and most Vivo phones for that matter so again not really an option. I would rather spend $450 on a Vivo than $550 on a Xiaomi! One of the most important elements for me on a phone is audio and unfortunately most are lacking in this area, however it is an area where Vivo excel.

I wouldn’t pay $550 for any phone. If camera was most important to me I would buy the Mx4 original or the Gionee E7 which have two of the best cameras of any smartphone. The Mx4 can be found for under $400 and the E7 for under $200. Personally I own the Mi4 which does everything I need it to and I only paid $350 for mine. Audio really isn’t a big enough deal for me to pay an extra $200.

Nor would I, hence why I don’t own a Vivo, Meizu, Xiaomi etc. My current phone cost $200 and has an absolutely amazing camera but awful audio. I find it hard to spend more than $300 on a phone because after 10-12 months I get bored and want a change, I suspect this is partly down to the fact that I haven’t had one yet they quite ticks all the boxes. If I could get one of these high end phones on a really good deal I would test out my theory!!

I would be surprised if it comes with a Sony censor given Gionee’s relationship with Omnivision. The camera on the E7 is still one of the best available and rivals the 20.7 MP Sony found in the Mx4. I would rather see a newer version of that camera.
