Delhi speech makes Lei Jun the butt of many jokes, including a superfunny autotune video

For the first time in his life, Lei Jun took to stage at the launch of a product from his company, a launch that didn’t happen inside his country.

While some lauded the effort that Jun took despite it being out of his comfort zone, many gave him a lot of flak for not managing to do what he set out for — deliver an error-free speech.

Quite a lot of the criticism from the latter half came from people that belong to China. In fact, I was asked by many of my friends in China if the speech was as funny as they found it to be. In all honesty, the guy does deserve some credit to have convinced himself to come out of his comfort zone at a massive event.

Gizchina News of the week

“Are you OK?” Jun asked the ecstatic attendees at the Mi 4i launch event. Clearly, he was at a loss for words. He followed it up with “Do you like?” referring to the fact that Xiaomi would later be giving Mi Bands to attendees.

Memes and videos of the powerful tech personality have been making round since the April 23 launch of the Mi 4i. Today, a rather creative head decided to focus its energies into making a autotuned version of the speech, which as I have to admit, is outright hilarious.

Autotuned Lei Jun speech. Superfunny?

Interestingly, it was Hugo Barra, Jun’s colleague and Xiaomi VP, who shared the video on his social streams. Must admit, Barra mustn’t be feeling a speck of insecurity at his new company!

Now that you’ve seen the speech… we have to ask, #AreYouOk?

Absolutely brilliant! One would think there is enough budget for a personal English tutor for Lei Jun, but it’s much more fun to hang out with a XiaoSan for example. I can understand that 😉

But the question is… Are you OK?

Are you OK?! Oh god, this was awesome. I hope Lei Jun doesn’t get offended too much from this.

One of my favorite things about Xiaomi’s upper levels is that they’re really chill about this kind of stuff. Makes you want to watch that exactly goes on when they’re at work.

Also, you really have to wonder, what exactly was Lei Jun’s reaction to watching these videos?

Yeah and I think it’s better for him to follow his own persona, if this is one, rather than trying to be the new Jobs. Being known as that fun and approachable CEO isn’t all that bad.

I would love to see my bosses clowning on each other like this. As for Hugo he has no worries about his future, he is the CEO in waiting for when Xiaomi takes it’s product globally.
