Update: Ulefone Be Touch 2 will be a more powerful YET cheaper Be Touch

ulefone be touch 2

Two of the most talked about phones in the last month have been the Ulefone Be Touch and the Elephone P7000. While the latter took its own time in getting to shelves, the Be Touch is already shipping and is available readily.

During the review of the Be Touch, we found the phone to be an extremely well made device but with lack of proper supporting software. Also, a gripe that a lot of GizChina readers had with the device was that it has only a 720p display. Ulefone seems to have heard that, and is already preparing the launch of the next phone.

(UPDATE) The phone — the Ulefone Be Touch 2 — will be more powerful and yet have a cheaper price tag. The Be Touch 2 will sell for US$179.99, a US$20-30 drop from the ~US$210 of the Be Touch. The special price will only be for a limited time and will eventually rise to $230.

Gizchina News of the week

One among the major upgrades on the Be Touch 2 will be the display, which will finally be a full HD panel. If you’ve read our review of the Be Touch, you’ll know that display is where the phone doesn’t score a lot of points. That should finally change with the upgrade. Coming back to the Be Touch 2, it’ll have the same 3GB RAM, octa-core MT6752 processor and 13 mega-pixel main camera.

Software is something the company seems to have taken seriously for the Be Touch 2, which is why the phone will ship with Android 5.1. Battery will get an update too, which will now be a 3050mAh unit from the 2550mAh of the Be Touch.

Ps: If the new battery fits on the early model, should be quite interesting.

Yes agreed. But, I bought 2 extra Be Touch batteries on aliexpress, so i pretty much have 7650mah ready wherever I go. Only thing I don’t have is the full HD display… which is where the kick in the balls hurts the most ?

Antutu 720P is 46000,Atutu 1080P is 45000,The performance gap is not big, I will choose 1080P.

            June 9, 2015

Antutu doesn’t tell you a thing about the performance, it tells you an arbitrary number that has no meaning when it comes to actual performance you will experience.

              June 10, 2015

Seriously don’t go by Antutu or any benchmark for that reason. It gives you a number to look at and not much more. Two phones with similar numbers on Antutu can have drastically different performance results based on specs used and software. And then there is phones like the S6 and S6 Edge which have the same exact components but a 10,000 point gap between the two of them. And of course there is HTC which admitted to using software tricks to cheat Antutu scores.

        June 8, 2015

Personally I prefer 720p displays on anything less than 6 inches. It offers a beautiful display and isn’t nearly a resource hog. Of course this is only if they use a quality 720p display and not one with washed out colors and no black levels.

        June 10, 2015

Nice, but unless you found a way to charge the battery that is currently empty at the same time as you’re using the other it’s useless. Because in the end of the day you end up with 2 or 3 empty batteries and it becomes a really boring to always swap the batteries, your phone back cover won’t like it too. 😉

        • xteamchinax
          June 10, 2015

Dude, they’re called UNIVERSAL battery chargers, to charge, ummm, spare batteries. Like, $2 on eBay. Been around for like forever. Actually, I’ve never even needed to swap batteries yet. I also have a pretty compact 18600mAh Zerolemon portable battery (about the size of my Be Touch) in my backpack at all times, great for traveling, and needs re-charging maybe once every two months. So far, the Be Touch back cover appreciates the peace and quiet… and I always appreciate the spare power.

Hey great man, I like your setup. 🙂 Sorry I was aware of these universal chargers, is it really safe to use them with any kind of li-on batteries? I mean can you measure if they output the correct voltage?

      June 9, 2015

i think the Be Touch 2 battery will fit Be Touch. I’ve emailed Ulefone customer service asking if the Be Touch 2 will be thicker than Be Touch for bigger battery. They said the new battery has higher capacity but not a larger one, for the li-polyer cell instead of liquid lithium.

      • tech mi

Why is it scummy? They listened to their fans and to the reviewers and corrected what many said was a mistake with their phone. Not only that but they are offering the updated version with better specs for even less. If anything that makes me want to buy Ulefone in the future, it shows they actually listen and care about their customers.

Can you explain how you did this

        • xteamchinax
          June 9, 2015

Install an app called MTK Engineering Mode from the Play store. Then click MTK Settings, go to Location tab, click YGPS, then click INFORMATION, then click HOT (wait 2 seconds), then click FULL (wait 2 seconds) then click AGPS RESTART. Finally, reboot your phone.

I feel like this helped me by maybe tuning my GPS to satellites in my locale (Europe) rather than searching or GPS satellites in China. I could be wrong. But after I restarted my phone, I was to get a GPS lock within 10 seconds and google maps navigation was very smooth with decent accuracy (within 20 to 50 ft on average)

          Hope this helps

i’m quite confused with the Ulefone logic. Most firms release high specs version then the low one, like Meizu m1 note and MeIZU m2 note, while ulefone do the contrary. Well, 1080p and big battery is what i want anyway.

    • ljan ryan
      June 9, 2015

me, too. front fingerprint is something really shortcut, if it’s on the back like huawei mate 7, it takes me some time to find where it is, and i have to pick it up from my desk. With front fingerprint, i can reach the home screen with one press.

      • Android Hound

      • Xu Tan
        June 9, 2015

Agreed, i don’t know what’s the point if you place the fignerprint scanner back, since it does not support fingerprint payment.

      • Suskind
        June 9, 2015

Do not understand why they design in the back, so it is not convenient. The design of iPhone and ulefone Be Touch 2 is good.

        • ljan ryan
          June 9, 2015

As far as i know, it’s not easy to place it in front, especially on the home button, especially when the button is sunken instead of extruding. The lower jaw is the thinnest part of a phone, and in regard to the sunken home button, the fingerprint scanner must be very very thin. Also, if you want the button to perform both its original function and fingerprint ID in the mean time, you must deal with the mutual inerference between each other element’s circuit. And the fingerprint scanner must be very small as on the front as not to enlarge the margin around the display too much. So i know Ulefone has taken great efforts just to make the one function more friendly to users. This moved me, though the phone may not be perfect in other aspects.

hmmm, with front fingerprint you don’t have to pick up your phone to see what is coming if you don’t want to. By with rear one, you must.

battery life is actually about 2 hours with minimal use even! i.e. facebook, one call, internet and email apps on a 45 minute train journey and the battery is down to less than twenty percent! and thats with the screen on the lowest lighting. the phone overheats constantly – sits around 70 most of the time even with no apps open and nothing installed on the stock rom. the camera on the back gets almost too hot to touch if being used for more than twnety mins. finger print scanner is no where near as good as the iphone. Antutu real benchmark is barely 4000 with the stock – all in all looks a good phone but you need a battery pack still and also an ice pack for the back of the phone!!!!
