Meizu MX5 Pro could come next month with 4GB RAM, Exynos 7420 and QHD display

Meizu started a trend last year by releasing an MX4 Pro along with the regular version. The phone was discontinued recently, which makes one guess about what could come next.

According to reports coming from China, the MX5, which is the upcoming Meizu flagship, will also have a ‘Pro’ version. Purported specifications of this phone have just made their way online, and the only thing we can say based on that is that the phone is going to be a bomb!

For starters, the MX5 Pro will have an Exynos 7420 SoC (the same chip that powers the Galaxy S6/S6 edge). Previous reports stated that things might have gone wrong between Meizu and Samsung, but that might not be the case. With the powerful chipset, the MX5 will also have 4GB of RAM and of course, a fingerprint reader.

Gizchina News of the week

Meizu already ships some impressive cameras on its phones, and the MX5 Pro should be no different — the same 20.7 mega-pixel of the MX4 Pro should suffice on the MX5 Pro, but who knows. For the battery, we’re hearing that the device will have a 4000mAh cell. To top off all of that, Meizu are said to include a 6-inch 2560 x 1440 pixel screen on the phone.

There’s no real way to ascertain the authenticity of these leaks, but Meizu have proven in the past that they’re no mug with phone manufacture. The coming weeks should tell!

I’m a big fan of Meizu as I’ve bought MX2, MX3 and lastly MX4. I said to myself that this year I’d go for MX5 Pro if it had the same screen size or 5.7″ max, but from what I read there’s no way to buy such a huge bulky phone as I cannot fit in my pocket and I should carry a small bag. I’d wait and see the final leaks before its’ announcement so that I know what to do.

If the MX5 has bezel-less sides, as the early renders seem to indicate, it could be as narrow or narrower than either the Galaxy Note 4 or Mi Note Pro. Granted, I’d rather have a bezel-less 5.5″ display.

someone knows something about m1 mini international version? or another device with <5" of good company (no doogee or elephones please)
i want something less than 5" with good hardware and quality but no too expensive like mi4i

The M2 just came out but the M1 is still actually faster but i like the look of the new m2 better. Other nice brands to check out with solid builds are UMI they just released a couple solid phones and have a new flagship coming in a month or so with the Helio X10 i heard and will be packing a ton of powerful hardware and is full alloy build. Also you can get your hands on the older Meizu MX4 at really low prices now on Geekbuying, saw one for $295. Uhh lets see who else, Oh lenovo has some great phones at really good prices too like the Vibe shot that i think looks so cool and the build is very strong aluminum and gorilla glass, as well as the Vibe Z2, and Vibe Z2 Pro though it costs a bit more but looks really cool and damn strong. I personally like the new Huawei P8 and P8 lite they look so nice and sleek and look like executive level stuff esp the P8 but that costs a pretty penny right now. You might also like the Huawei honor 6 or 6 plus they are cheap on Geekbuying and Gearbest, and the Geekbuying anniversary sale is on so you can get stuff real cheap and they are very reliable as i buy all my phones from either them or gearbest, and they have great shipping options too. I live all the way in Belize, Central America and payed 20USD extra for express shipping on my Meizu MX4 pro and got it in 3 Weeks which is great considering how far i live. My orders with express shipping from the US on ebay usually take 2 weeks so that was pretty fast shipping via EMS. The Asus Zenphone line has some great phones to for really good prices and the builds are solid and the phones perform very well, you definitely get a bang for your buck. The ZTE Nubia Z9 Mini is also a good one with solid build and specs for about 300 bucks . The news Meizu M2 note is brand new and is on sale in 4 different colors on geekbuying for 247USD and ZTE blade which is a solid nice looking phone is available for 214bucks as well and it has nice hardware as well. Finally if you want a great solid build phone with a reliable brand name with amazing hardware for a low price i would tell you to check out the brand new

ZTE Grand S II S291, you cant go wrong, check the specs on that thing and you’ll see what i mean, and its only 249USD on sale now at geekbuying. Also for all the phones i listed here you can go to kimovil.com an it shows you a list of online retailers that use paypal and lists them in order from lowest price to highest. You can set the currency type and shipping options on the site. I personally recommend using Geekbuying and gearbest and since i have literally tried them all and most of them give hell before they even ship out your phone. Hope you find what you’re looking for dude.

I forgot to mention that if you really are on a budget and want a really cheap phone but want current gen specs then there is no other phone to consider than the

UMI EMAX, it has 4G LTE, its 5.5inches, it has a MTK6752 64bit, 16GB Rom, 2gig Ram, a 1080p OGS screen with 441ppi, and a massive 3780mAH battery. UMI is a very reliable brand, i had a UMI Zero and it was a solid phone and UMI has a peice of software named rootjoy that’s so easy to use its crazy; for installing a myriad of roms from custom to updates for the stock rom and its all supported and made by UMI. This All costs only 159$ and the phone is all gorilla glass and brushed metal.

I would be sop happy if it were , maybe they can do one better and get a f1.5 aperture Samsung camera, that would probably add $100 bucks to the price-tag though but those low-light pics and color accuracy would be through the roof.

    • hugo26
      June 8, 2015

Listen to me, 41Mpix is stupid on a phone, it makes no sense. People don’t seem to understand what Megapixels are for so they keep demanding more and the pictures are still crappy. Are you planning on printing massive 5ft*5ft pictures ??? then if not 41megapixels are stupid and pointless and don’t improve pictures at all, all it does is let you zoom in closer. 16mpix is fine and it should stop right there and instead they should spend that money on a camera with lower aperture which allows the camera to grab much more light and make for the best photos especially low light, if they can get a f1.8 like the g4 then they will be solid, of course there are other things to consider too.

        June 9, 2015

you clearly didn’t see any lumia 1020 pictures if you say 41mpx is stupid

        • vernom
          June 9, 2015

Well, he points at the fact that the quality of a picture is not measured by the amount of megapixels. That the lumia 1020 shoots perfect pictures, is also dependent on the lenses, aperture ratio, software and light sensitivity and chip size. With more pixels, the light sensitivity will drop and result in worse pictures at night. Although you could compensate it, it is not better from start.

And BTW, the lumia 1020 has a large camera bulge on the rear, it does not look like a phone anymore. And in reviews the camera is said to be slow, so hope you won’t miss a picture.

Lost me at the 2K display, Meizu. 1080P @ 6″ = 367ppi (ie very sharp). Utter waste of performance and battery life @ 2K. Rubbish.

    • Tremaine Underwood
      June 8, 2015

I do kinda agree. I have the M1 note and I can’t really see the point of going finer then that. As you say there is massive overhead for those extra pixels. If I’m not mistaken the current generation of gaming consoles only support full HD so why are they trying to go 2k with cellphones. Not to mention for the most part TV’s are still FHD and the majority of signals are only HD. In fact in my country most satellite channels are still SD.

      • alan4195
        June 8, 2015

Right? Unfortunately, these companies are targeting the masses prone to marketing gimmicks and buzzwords. In that regard, I guess I can’t really blame them. If all of Samsung’s flagship phones sport 2K displays, and Samsung’s phones are selling 10’s of millions, how can another company expect their flagship to compete without “2K” in their marketing material? It’s easier to fool a consumer than to educate one.

I’m hoping that OnePlus will buck the trend and stick with 1080P for the OP2 (with a narrower side-bezel). If so, that’s my next smartphone. If not, I’m going back to small screens and sensible displays and picking up the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. At 720p with the (faster) SD 801 it can hang with the best performance-wise, has unrivaled battery life, a stellar camera, and is waterproof to boot. The fact that I can put a sturdy case on it and not feel it in my pocket is just icing on the cake.

    • hugo26
      June 8, 2015

Actually the 2K and 4K trend thats incoming is more for VR and the like, since everyone complains that seeing the pixels in 1080p and lower screen is very distracting for VR tech and its becoming increasingly popular especially since you can make your phone into a VR headset with an app and a cardboard cutout now. the 2K does considerably better but 4K would fix it. If you’re into VR that is.

      • alan4195
        June 9, 2015

If mobile VR were even remotely popular, I could see that. For one, Samsung’s Gear VR is the only mobile VR platform that has any quality VR apps (and not many at that). But Samsung’s Gear VR’s aren’t selling Galaxy Note 4’s. Although there are no actual sales numbers (telling in and of itself), the attach rate is likely less than 5%. Secondly, the phones we’re talking about don’t have any VR headsets designed for them, either by the manufacturer or a 3rd party, nor are there any in the rumor mill. Mobile VR is a non-factor where mobile sales are concerned, which makes 2K/4K/QHD displays pure gimmickry.

Samsung processor? That’s a little strange isn’t it, I thought they discontinued the mx4 pro because going forward they were going to use mediatek chips for the pro. I was expecting and kinda hoping 🙂 it would be the Helio X20.

    • MaxPower
      June 8, 2015

That doesn’t sound right to me either.
For the reason you said plus I’d add that I don’t think Samsung would give up their last SoC to a competitor. Even with the Mx4 pro they didn’t give their last SoC

      • hugo26
        June 8, 2015

Actually Its strange that gizchina hasn’t posted the news about the new Samsung Exynos 7580 octa that had its benchmarks posted being used in a TCL smartphone. It clocks in a 1.6gz and its more than likely that will be the chip that Meizu will use if it does go with Samsung, in fact i’m sure it’ll be that one if they go with Exynos, and the X20’s wont be ready in time anyways, those might be available at its earliest late this year.

Honestly I wish the 2K trend would come to an end. It looks only marginally better than a really good FHD screen because of the small display size and it is a battery killer.

Is there any 4k Chinese phone? 2k is OK but not perfect for VR. I like to watch movies in personal virtual cinema and experience 180° 3D p0rn. It feels like I’m inside of hologram. I was mind blown. Google announced that there will be VR content on YouTube! It is the best thing since invention of the internet but we need better screens! I never wanted expensive phone but since I experienced VR I changed my mind. If you don’t need high resolution, then buy a cheap 1080p phone and don’t complain, there will be plenty of them.
