UMi Hammer S will cost $129.99 with USB Type C and fingerprint scanner

After leaked photos of the UMi Hammer S were published yesterday, UMi have revealed pricing and partial specifications for the phone over on Facebook.

The original UMi Hammer was a low-cost phone with an impressively sturdy body. I throughly enjoyed trying to destroy our test model and was excited about this ‘tough’ phone that didn’t look like a normal rugged model.

Since the release of the Hammer, UMi have announced other phones and among them is an updated UMi Hammer S model, with a better design and more features while keeping low cost.

Gizchina News of the week

According to the post made on UMi’s Facebook page, the UMi Hammer S will cost only $129.99 when it launches in August. This could make it the most affordable Android phone on the market with USB Type C and Finger-print scanner.

UMi also confirmed that the UMi Hammer S will have 2GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, 5.5-inch display, and a Mediatek MT6735 chipset. We are still waiting on UMi to confirm the battery size, resolution and camera specs of the newest Hammer S model.

    WHY the hell 5,5” and MT6735 ?!?

They should have used MT6752/53 and added $10/$20 to it. For MT6735, I wont consider it.

I think this shows yet again a complete lack of focus from a Chinese manufacturer, releasing phones for the sake of it instead of having a definite plan going forward. Just because MT release a modified version of an existing chip, doesn’t mean you have to use it and then try to pass if off as an upgrade of a relatively ‘new’ phone that is not even due an ‘upgrade’!

This is not really an upgrade. This is a “DOWNGRADE”. I don’t like all these MT6753/35 phones that are showing up everywhere. I have decided that if not MT6752 or Helio X10, I will go for Snapdragon 801/805 and maybe I can even go for SD810.

MT6753/35 phones are underpowered in the graphics dept and I dont want any stuttering while I am gaming.

I don’t get why it needs to be almost the same as Iron with slower chipset.
This should have been 5″ and same CPU as Iron, otherwise I don’t get the point.
So they put the slower cpu, otherwise it would have been almost the same as Iron…
Makes no sense at all. Why not just upgrade the original Hammer with better chipset, better battery and camera, but keep the 5″. This way more people would be interested in UMI phones, because they would have a choice between 5″ and 5.5″…

To give buyers a 5″ option in the UMI range would have been preferable over another 5.5, however I give a lot of credit to UMI for the work they have been doing of late (i am particularly looking forward to the dual screened Zero2). They have gone up in my estimation of late, and for me a price point of US$130 for a phone with lollipop, fingerscanner and usb c appears very competitive.

They should put in a normal speaker, because in original Hammer you don’t hear a s**t…
