Finally the first details of the 4K Vivo Xplay 5S are leaked

vivo xplay 5s

Its no secret that I have had a past love affair with Vivo, but it is also common knowledge that I’m not super impressed with their latest phones, so news of the Vivo Xplay 5S comes is very welcome.

My first Vivo was the Xplay 3S and was bought due to my poor experience with my Oppo Find 7 and Oppo’s (Chinese) customer service. The Vivo Xplay 3S is such an amazing phone (yes, I still have it) that I had to have the Vivo Xshot too which went on to by my pick of best phone for 2014.

It must be getting on for 2 years since the Xplay 3S launched so it is good to finally hear details of the Vivo Xplay 5S and what it might offer.

Gizchina News of the week

According to Chinese tech site Anzhou, the next flagship Vivo Xplay 5S will feature a Snapdragon 820 chipset, 6-inch 4K display, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal memory, 21 mega-pixel rear camera, 12 mega-pixel front camera and 4000mAh battery. Drool, Drool, Drool!

vivo xplay 5s

What isn’t mention is a fingerprint scanner, but as Vivo were one of the first to use a fingerprint scanner (first in Chinese phones at least) we can expect something cool from the company, ultrasonic fingerprint tech perhaps?

If the Vivo Xplay 5S is set to launch before Christmas then we can expect strong competition from the Oppo Find 9, Xiaomi Mi5, and at the rate Meizu are going the Meizu MX6 Pro 6 Plus….

better than flyme, not really hard, but cyanogenmod seems to be the only interesting alternative to stock ROM imho

I feel the exact opposite, I hate CM. I prefer Flyme, Funtouch and MIUI.

I prefer MIUI, Flyme, Funtouch, ColorOS, EMUI, Mifavor even LG UX, Sense, Xperia UI than CM or barebone stock

If it will have the SD820 it’ll be launched next year, Qualcomm made that estimation themselves. Apparently Samsung hasn’t begun mass production of the SD820 yet and rumors say that they just recently decided to produce the 14nm version first (10nm later perhaps).

Hi, this is very much OT so sorry about that, but for some reasons images refuse to load on any of the posted articles, except the gizchina logo up top. Is anyone having this problem? Gizchina is the only site that doesn’t show images, just white space, where I can right click and open image in new tab. I have tried Chromium/Chrome/Firefox on Ubuntu 14.04. 🙁

Sounds like a great phone to me, but hopefully the Software will lower the resolution while not viewing media, else it would be a big battery eater.

It would be awesome if it had a Super AMOLED display with proper brightness. 🙂

I love Vivo for their sound quality (among the best) and excellent OS but I will never buy a 4k phone, it’s just a waste of resources.

    • Manu
      October 14, 2015

community patches might scale it down so less power is consumed ;D

      • balcobomber25
        October 14, 2015

There’s only so much you can do software side, a 4k screen still requires a lot of power to run especially compared to 1080p.

Hi, I have a question for you. I am tempted to buy the Mi4c the
3gb ram/32gb rom version. Do you believe if it is a great value for the
money? I know that there are better phones like the Honor 7 but my
budget is limited. The standard version of the Mi4c is pretty good also
but 16gb storage might be not enough in extensive usage. The advanced
version of the Mi4c is sold around $275 without shipping costs. I
considered to buy the Redmi Note 2 but its size is a downside for me.
          Your help is welcome.

            October 15, 2015

I haven’t personally used it so I can’t really say. But for the money it seems like a good value on paper.

Finally some interesting news. Knew the delay was because they didn’t want to use the SD810 and decided to wait for the SD820, the 4k resolution will be great for use with a VR headset. Can’t wait to see this beauty in the flesh 🙂

    Why Andi hate Meizu Smartphones?

    • Manu
      October 14, 2015

I dont think he hates them (at least i hope so) but their naming and release have changed rapidly lately last year around this time theyreleased their flagships and this year they released it in july (mx 5) also their naming from mx 4 and mx4 pro changed to mx 5 and m 5 pro (or m pro 5) …. see i dont even know it xD they should´ve stayed with mx5 pro

        In this Year 2015:
        Elephone …. 16
        Vivo. ….. 15
        Oppo …… 14
        Xiaomi….. 8
        Meizu …. 6
And It not only for most recent comentary

    • E8hffff
      October 14, 2015

Probably because they are over valued/priced?

  11. Joel Adames
    October 13, 2015

Woohoo, No!!! If it or any brand shows up at prices as @E8hffff mentioned down in the older coments then NO… MAYBE Vowney is the way to go and hope for a way to trick-ROM-it or for elephone TO take the same road they did with the P8000.

I strongly think that for a Chinese outsider or international buyer, way far from china as me, a phone in the price territory of Samsung galaxy S6 edge even maybe an Edge Plus by the time the others come out or an LG V10 is a big NO NO …. IMHO.

Then is the deal with the SD820 SoC and that 4k stuff, both calling for timing and price???

  12. Joel Adames
    October 13, 2015

Maybe these brands are aiming for the new local Chinese market that knows them. But I would encourage them to temper their margins regarding what profits they spect out of a device. For the specs mentioned above if to be credible them a price range from 400 to the 500 USD should be good … But calling it above 600 will or might ask for trouble???

  13. October 14, 2015

Why do people want or need 4K phones again? I mean, most people don’t even have 4K TVs and laptops, yet. I reckon if you look up the word “superfluous” in the dictionary, you would find a picture of a mobile phone with 4K resolution ;).

Using your phone for a 3D, VR. And yes, I do have a 3D monitor, but a headset is likely to be better. And yes I have hundreds of 3D photos.

this phone should be 6.5” if in 4k and 5000 battery and at least 5GB RAM

  15. October 15, 2015

I hope it is for real and if price is from 400 to 500 so i gonna take!!!!!!

I have bought the Vivo Xplay 3S 2 years ago: what an amazing masterpiece of hardware it was and it toll holds its ground compare to late 2015 releases. Most amazing camera I have ever used. But about software updates, what a let down: as we speak, it must be still running on KitKat 4.4. very frustrating indeed. I gave up after a year on 4.3 when everyone was getting up to 5.1+.
