Xiaomi launches the Mi Air Purifier 2 for 699 Yuan

Xiaomi will be announcing a few gadgets today it seems, and besides the Redmi Note 3 the company has also announced the Mi Air Purifier 2.

The Mi Air Purifier 2 is a 699 Yuan or $110 device that will… purify the air you breathe. While it might not sound like much to readers outside China, air purifiers are quite a needed commodity in certain cities in China where pollution levels soar.

The Mi Air Purifier 2 comes with three filter layers: pre-filter, HEPA filter, and activated carbon filter and has an effective range of up to 39.6m2 thanks to the single motor and dual booster fans.

As for the dimensions and weight, Xiaomi has managed to make the Mi Air Purifier 2 smaller and lighter than the first-gen air purifier; it now measures 520 x 240 mm sideways, as compared to the 735 x 260 mm profile of the previous-gen model.

It is also quieter now; the device will produce 30db noise when put in night mode, and is overall 11% quieter than the first generation model according to Xiaomi. 388 cubic metres an hour can be cleaned by the Mi Air Purifier 2, up from 330 cubic metres/hour.

The standard and enhanced filters are priced at 149 Yuan ($23) and 169 Yuan ($26.5) respectively.

Yes they are. I have the 1st version. There’s a dust detector (which acts like a PM2.5 sensor). It can turn on and off automatically depending on pollution and you can control it by wifi and cellular as long as it’s connected to your router.

If you have never been to China, you don’t realize how bad the air quality can be in some cities. This is a huge release for Xiaomi.

How often do you have to change filters ?

After round 6 months. The Xiaomi app tells you the % you used but I believe it’s based on hour of use and not on quantity filtered which make the information not very accurate.
2 months in Beijing is probably the same as 6 months in other cities less polluted…
