Say hi to the new Elephone sub-brand MGCOOL

Seems like Elephone moguls have decided to organise the growing product portfolio a bit better so they are introducing a new Elephone sub-brand MGCOOL, which should be covering smart wearable products and general mobile electronics devices.

Gizchina News of the week

Main motto of the new brand is “Experience different world” and the whole conception should be based on that, bringing more digital way of life to the customers using latest technologies and intelligent, modern, but still affordable products. Well let’s see how that will shape up, crossing fingers.

Currently the products under the MGCOOL brand include action camera, quick chargers and audio products, but there will be surely more later on. And Elephone & MGCOOL are also launching a promotional free experience event now for the ELEPower Thunder powerbank, you can find more information about it in this link. And if you want to know more about the MGCOOL in general then click here.

Since Elephoney is already such a shitty no good brand with their shitty no good products, i can assume that this sub brand is the same or even worse than its big brother Elephoney brand.

Again i need to say, Instead of doing a lot of bullshit marketing gimmics, why don’t you elephoney start to fix your product qualities (real hardware specs as promised, better software and hardware support, better build quality, etc) then they suppose to be ok in the market as people can see their sincerity to become a better vendor.

But now currently what Elephoney do is the same , they keep doing posting lies after lies to public. They even willing to pay fake posters to post good thing about their products. This is utterly RUBBISH.

I did not believe it at first.
But you know what I saw in their fucked up FB page? Someone was saying, “hi I posted good comments in here “posts a link” and here “again” and here etc..” please send me my free mobile”.

That’s what they do. They are posting fake comments, to earn money or a free phone, from Elejobs. They are not really employees, but they ask to get a reward for their positive comments!

You can understand an Elephone spammer, from their comments only on Elephone posts. If the profile is private, you can see they have only 1-5 votes (likes) for every 100 comments, because they write sh*t…

how are the recent phones? I thought that they got better?

I bought the P2000 and it broke within 6 months. Geekbuying refused to repair it (the touch screen didn’t respond any more)

Looking on Gizchina it seems that everyone hates that brand. I have to say that I replaced it with the Be Touch 2 and I can’t tell which phone is worse. I have a screen on time of one hour before the phone shuts down.

1+ year of P8000 going strong. Thanks to the community I have OTA roms too. Can’t complain, from all the sub $150 phones I have ever bought is the one that went me the most as well…

That’s good that your phone is doing well but from here and the elephone forms I would say that on average, your phone included, they phones they made are horrible. Sound like you are an outlier. An anomaly if you will

          • Stef
            November 2, 2016

All their latest phones were of great build quality for the price. You are the anomaly. See those with issues are all having issues with their older phones…

            • lildwell
              November 2, 2016

That’s not what I’ve seen from their forums….

            • Stef
              November 2, 2016

That makes no sense. Of course people with issues would post more. Looking around any company’s forums you would think their products are good for nothing. People with issues tend to post more.

Anyway Elephone is a budget brand, offering budget quality. For their price they are good enough phones. Gizchina’s distrust of the brand is overblown. It’s actually probably better than other budget brands (quality wise)… plenty of people satisfied with those phones. Check XDA forums where people are more informed too.

P8000 had a great build quality. I didn’t buy it blindly. There were serious reviews showing that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrCdwdjEYP8

            • lildwell
              November 3, 2016

Actually listing xda developers isn’t a good reference. They constantly make gold out of shit. They did it with my old Ecoo E04 back in 2015 and are still doing it today. The sheer number of complaints is ridiculous as well. Also, Elephone tend to buy news time and reviews to this day. In this day and age nearly everybodies build quality at around $100 or less is pretty good. Even the newcomers like Vernee have good build quality. The horrid business practices, shotty software updates, bugs, etc are still a constant issue with elephone. Even in their midrange.

            • Stef
              November 3, 2016

It is, Elephone is one of the few who posted sources to some of their phones. That *is* what actually lead P8000 to have support to this day. Even OTA releases.

It’s a phone I bought for $145 more than a year ago, which according to *reviews* had excellent build quality for the price (just look at the heavy metal frame it houses internally) and excellent software because of the released sources.

BTW I built my first patch because of said sources, nothing to do with XDA. As long as you have sources of a phone you can support it yourself. None of the other budget manufacturers that I know of do such a thing.

If you are going to mention what is bad about Elephone you should mention what is good about them as well. You know for completion…

            • lildwell
              November 4, 2016

That is good that they have released sources but that doesn’t affect a normal consumer. Again, people that go on xda developers make gold out of shit even without sources. Most people font even want to root, let alone play with ROMs. Other budget companies are trying to release their sources as well. Like the vernee Thor for $100. It looks like releasing sources is a growing trend and most Chinese companies love blindly following trends.

            • Stef
              November 4, 2016

A normal consumer does not even know of Chinese phones. They buy Samsungs and iphones. If you know of Elephone, you know of Xda. And in this case it’s not gold out of shit, it’s sources being used properly.

Released sources ensures that a phone is going to be supported for years, no sources means no support, most Chinese phones (apart from Xiaomis are like that). I would like to see your face when p8000 would be receiving support long after any pricier phones. Released sources is a big deal.

BTW releasing sources is the legal thing to do. All those Chinese vendors *not* releasing sources would have their products pulled if they were not being protected by the Chinese government. They go against GPL, I.E. use open source software without releasing the source code. That is extremely illegal

            • lildwell
              November 4, 2016

It is gold out of shit though because there are properly updated and stable ROMs for phones that don’t have sources available to them. Also, with the rise of apps like Ali Express in the west, many novice people now have access to and will are jumping on these and other cheap Chinese phones all of the time. Anecdotally speaking I have people coming to me everyday asking should they buy x phone from aliexpress and, have you heard about aliexpress? They have fill in the blank. As far as released sources go, I have been a major advocate for Chinese phones releasing sources and said that its a good thing that they are starting to. I also mentioned that they aren’t the only ones and more startups are stating this as a reason to buy from them. The vernee Thor is an example of this trend I have already mentioned…..

            • Stef
              November 5, 2016

When Elephone did it no other budget brand did it. It’s true that more do it and more the power to them. Without sources phones get worthless pretty fast. If you do have sources and a good development team on the other hand a phone can last several years. Take Jiayu S3 for example. Released equipped with Kitkat (v4.4) and it’s now on nougat (v7) w/t any major issues.

As for P8000, sadly there are no sources for Marshmallow, not yet anyhow, that didn’t stop devs from porting lollipop drivers to marshmallow (and eventually Nugat). That is indeed XDA magic (TM). But the Lollipop 5.1.1 roms were not XDA magic, any fool could compile them (download a ready image of Ubuntu for compilations, download the sources, run it on virtual box, run the command “make”, done). Even better download the sources directly from CM project and have your freshly compiled rom with all the newest merges (bells and whistles). None if it is “XDA magic”, it’s just what sources do. No hacks or anything, pretty easy for a layman to do as well…

            • lildwell
              November 5, 2016

“Any fools could compile them.” And this is where enthusiasts get confused when it comes to the casual market. The people asking about whether aliexpress is safe to buy from more than likely don’t know what sources are in the first place. Your speech about sources still doesn’t negate the fact that xda creates magic out of thin air. You’ve mentioned xiaomi already. Then there is my elephone created Ecoo e04 that had zero sources yet the fine folks on xda got 5.1 working better than the elephone created ROM. Its good that elephone is releasing sources so the community can do the work for them but touting average for the time build quality with released sources vindicates them for their past and current bullshit is nonsense. The fact of the matter is is that the average none xda people that bought their devices, and there are a lot, have been screwed by them. I’m glad you like your p8000 though. I’m outie

              November 5, 2016

If you can’t even compile (run the command “run”) you probably should not be buying phones that not self-supported (i.e. supported by the compnay). That is why people who are not willing to learn the slightest thing (or at least have a friend to install a rom or two), should *never* budget phones no matter what.

On the other hand if you *are* in the business of buying a budget phone, you better buy one with released sources and good build quality. P8000 was both, and after a year I had no issues what-so-ever. I don’t know about the rest of Elephone phones because I didn’t own them. All I am saying is that I have at least one example of the fact that the company is sometimes bashed for no good reason.

They’re still overpriced (sometimes), they still lack good cameras, and probably good build quality ( in older phones mostly). But you should not expect much from a budget company. When you start to get sick of all the non-news flooding this site, Elephone doubles down launching a sub-brand.

It was nice till it lasted, but I can’t cherry picking through the articles to read something interesting.

Well luckily their is author name in the articles show up on the page so you still can. Andi & a new guy are still good.

Sounds good! But what was the need of a sub brand?? Will Elephone release some of their future products under this name?? Or just a sub brand for courier or something like that?? I want to know more about this new MGCOOL.

They’re trying to trick people that hate they’re brand into buying more product from them under a new disguise. They did this once with the Ecoo brand. Reviewers liked the phones so people bought them only to find out that they were buggy and overheated. Updates were promised but never made. Now Ecoo is just a distant memory. That’s more than likely the destiny of McCool.

This is probably going to end up like Ecoo. Remember when they made Ecoo? Theybmade a couple of phones and abandoned it…

actually have never heard of that brand before, it is interesting, seems like it’s deal already… hopefully this new sub brand they are opening won’t end up the same way as ecoo did though

I doubt they will fair any better. Elephone is full of bs marketing techniques. There is the this is a new brand trick. There is the paid to say good things about their products on different blogs and forums trick. There is the mysteriously vague details about important hardware like what kind of camera sensor the phone will use trick. There is the promise that they will update your phone for x amount of time but to them an update is just a buggy beta ROM on their website with little to no difference between the version that cane with the phone. There was the we have CyanogenMod on our phones now but the ROM is so buggy you can’t even make calls. There is the this phone will release in a certain month only to be delayed up to a year with a major downgrade in the soc. There is the preorder scandal where people had to wait months omfor their phones to ship if ever.

        Tldr. Don’t trust elephone.

I had one too. It over heated like crazy and the only update they had was a buggy beta ROM on their website. They can barely make good phones for there own brand and they’re probably doing this as a quick cash grab.

I am intrigued to see what products they are going to be launching under this new branding, maybe they will transfer all accessories to this brand and leave only the phones under the main company branding?
