WhatsApp rival Telegram introduces voice calling

For a really long time, Telegram has been considered a rival to one of the world’s most popular IM services, WhatsApp. What Telegram lacks in user base, it adds in features and security. However, for this little feature, Telegram was one-upped by WhatsApp.

What I’m talking about is voice calling. Telegram has introduced voice calling for its users, but only those who are based out of Western Europe.

Gizchina News of the week

Users of the app in other regions should expect to get the calling feature in the coming months, if not weeks. Telegram is a free-open source IM client with a focus on security and privacy of its users.

WhatsApp is usually a bit behind Telegram with the addition of features. In fact, in a rather witty and controversial post titled ‘How to predict WhatsApp features‘, the creator of Telegram took an indirect jibe at the now-Facebook-owned IM clients tactics of adding features that Telegram added first.

Coming back to voice calling, it should be a neat addition that Telegram users will certainly appreciate.
