Corruption Allegations In Huawei’s Hierarchy – Top Executive Detained

Reports from the Chinese media today suggests that Teng Hongfei, the executive vice president of Huawei Consumer BG Greater China, has been taken away by the police for investigation. According to the report, Teng Hongfei has not appeared in Huawei for some time, and most of the operations of Huawei’s BG are known to the public. In response to the above news, Huawei responded to CBN reporters saying

“the former chief of sales operations in China, Teng Hongfei, had been taken by the public security authorities on suspicion of accepting bribes from non-state staff. Due to the suspected criminal offense, the police are investigating everything, please refer to the police for more information”

Huawei’s internal corruption has always been a top priority. As early as 2005, Huawei management adopted the “EMT Declaration” and required all cadres at various levels to comply in an attempt to eliminate internal corruption. In January 2013, Huawei held a high-profile “board of self-declaration of oaths.” Reports have it that Teng Hongfei won an internal management award this year.  Teng Hongfei, originally a professional manager, came to Huawei in 2014. In his early years, he served as general manager of Nokia West, South, and then switched in 2012 to Samsung as Samsung Electronics Southern Region General Manager.

In May 2014, Teng Hongfei switched to Huawei, where he served as Executive Vice President of BG Greater China and was in charge of sales. With the rapid expansion of Huawei’s terminal sales in China, Teng Hongfei’s position and authority become more and more important. However, some media reported that Teng Hongfei has not appeared in the company for a period of time, and the reason is known to most people in Huawei’s high-level BG. Huawei claims that it has always upheld the principles of honesty and ethical conduct to carry out its business and took zero tolerance for internal corruption. At present, Huawei has three major business segments, including communications network equipment (operators), enterprise networks and consumer electronics. Huawei Consumer BG is a business group under Huawei. Its business covers solutions and services from Huawei’s handsets, tablet PCs, mobile broadband, home terminals, home media end products, modular products, and smart enterprises.
