Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S: Everything you need to know!

After so many weeks of rumors, Xiaomi has finally broke the silence on the Mi Mix 2S. The device is expected to hit the market this March 27th and this time around its expected to go truly bezel-less. Anyways in today’s article we are gonna talk on the top features, that you can expect on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S.

Leaks & News about the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s:

OLED Display:

The first major shift is the OLED display. In the path of Samsung & Apple, Xiaomi will be the next big player to make the LCD to OLED shift in its upcoming Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S. Also it is expected to be a 5.99-inch bezel-less display with a 95 percent screen-to-body ratio. Also Recently Mi Mix 2S Firmware got leaked provided information we can expect that the phone might cast an in-display fingerprint scanner. If that is true then probably Xiaomi will be using the Vivo X20 Plus UD display, as currently that is the only display to support in-display fingerprint scanner.

Xiaomi has finally found a way to avoid the ugly iPhone X notch and go fully bezzeless, by casting the front camera on the top right corner.

This is truly a genius design choice by Xiaomi. Other than truly bezel-less there is no other change when compared to its previous version. Also the phone will still be built out of the premium Ceramic material.

On the back you can find a dual camera setup. The device will be using the latest Sony (IMX363 camera) sensor that will be equipped with a dual-pixel autofocus technology to deliver great results in low-light condition. Also from its leaked firmware, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is expected to heavily implement Artificial Intelligence to enhance photos. It will act more like the Huawei’s Mate 10 AI camera, which is basically used for object recognition.

“If rumors are true, then this is the highest score on a smartphone, beating the Galaxy S9+”
    By how much? 1-2% ?
Let’s talk when xiaomi beats Samsung on camera front, firmware and build quality.
I would even agree to pay Samsung price for xiaomi then.
Design-wise this mi mix 2s is much better than anybody has to offer.

Firmware is subjective some prefer MIUI, you prefer Crapwhiz. Build quality they are about even. Although Xiaomi has never had to recall an entire line of phones because they were exploding. Camera, Samsung has the edge but it’s not a huge edge.

I respect your opinion balco, but I tell you a story.
In December first xiaomi store opened in my country. I went there to see the latest and greatest of xiaomi.
Don’t know about miui, from what I read, many claim it’s buggy, but build quality I was to witness myself. Mi 6 exposed there had up to 1mm gaps on two of the corners between the back glass and the frame. Mi note 3 laying next to it didn’t have this issue.
Another story: my colleague has redmi note 3 pro, running stock MIUI global version. One day after a MIUI ota, some connections unsoldered and since then he had no more WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity.
Regarding camera, according to all the reviews I’ve seen, xiaomi is still way behind in camera department, unless one uses patched Google pixel camera apk.

Project Treble should allow for ease of custom roms too πŸ™‚

What do you think will be the main differences between this & the Mi 7 ?

Well who knows be by one day they might had to recall it as they use Samsungs batteries. Camera wise N3 has a good camera at S7 level so Xiaomi is gaining on it. MiUI 9 is in a poor shape & I ain’t a fun of it but again I do dislike & touch wiz…

You definitely are right about the camera….but Firmware and build quality? I’m not so sure that Samsung is better than Xiaomi on that front. Just look at the fact that the S8 is still rolling out Oreo when most of Xiaomi phones have had this update for a while. Now whether you prefer TouchWiz over MIUI is completely personal preference. Build quality is another questionable position. Especially when we are talking the Mi Mix with its Ceramic back. We can all agree that Samsung makes the best screens on the market. But in total build quality, they are not at the top. Xiaomi isn’t too far behind Samsung, to be honest, If the Mi Mix 2s can give me the same photo quality that I get from my Mi Note 3, I’ll be happy. I love the design, I just hate the camera.

One day people will get the message. Xiaomi has a $300 phone that can and does compete against $700-1000 phones. Put this camera in the Mi Mix 2s and I’ll be done for the year.

I prefer emui actually. But speaking of Oreo, which devices from xiaomi (running miui) received it? One or two out of 100?
Regarding build quality you can read below my answer to balco.

So N3 has camera as good as a two years old s7? Good progress for xiaomi. Anyway, they received 90 points there because they offer second camera and bokeh effects, but not 90 points good main single camera (like htc u11).

    • Lazar Prodanovic
      March 4, 2018

S8 achieve same result or a tad better but as it isn’t on the list I referred to the S7. Now let me correct my self N3 archives better photo scores than S7, S8, costing half the price of Samsungs.

    • yalok
      March 4, 2018

Better photo scores on dx0mark or somewhere else? Regarding dx0mark scores and N3, it got extra points for second camera (for zoom and bokeh effects). This makes sense, because s7 and s8 don’t have a second one.
But please prove N3 has better photo score for main camera.

    • Lazar Prodanovic
      March 4, 2018

I can’t prove you as obviously you don’t know to read. Only bokeh test is affected by the dual camera. Be smart you have reference tables to compare with a same test

    • yalok
      March 4, 2018

Maybe you can’t read as well?
Besides bokeh, zoom is also affected.

The better question would be which Xiaomi devices don’t have and aren’t already in beta phase of Oreo. Xiaomi has been really good about updating their devices (even though they are lazy about releasing their source code) They have even kept up with updating older devices like the Mi Note 2. The fact that they are using project Treble with some devices now is also a big help towards helping them stay near the forefront of the updates.

Also your personal anecdotes of build quality are not worth responding to. Just look at what Google went through with ttheir Pixel 2 XL last year…THAT is what happens when your quality is questioned. Screen burn in issues, software issues, speaker issues, etc etc. This happened and Google only sold 3 million phones. Xiaomi is a top 5 worldwide phone seller. If they had the issue your reported, then you can 100% believe that it would be a huge scandal. I don’t doubt your personal stories, however they matter VERY little in the grand scheme. In the end, you buy what you like. But your quality issues that you experience put you in a minority not a majority.

Is the Mi Mix 2S going to better in every respect compared to OnePlus 6 ?

    • Billy Williams
      March 4, 2018

probably not. The Mi Mix 2s isn’t in the same category as the OP6. Xiaomi’s Mi 7 is probably the better comparison. The Mi Mix is a series of phones that are more conceptual than complete. The Mi 7 is a complete phone (along with the Mi Note ) If you’re looking for OP6 competition you’re looking at Xiaomi Mi 7/ Mi Note 4, Huawei P20, LG G7 (if it happens), Sony XZ2, Galaxy S9, Nokia 8 Sirocco (even though its running on 835) as well as a couple other phones from Alcatel and others. I would mention Vivo and Oppo but if you’re buying a OnePlus phone you’re essentially buying an Oppo phone. OnePlus doesn’t put anything in their phones that isn’t already in their Vivo/Oppo counterpart.

      Fair enough. Out of interest:

When is Mi Note 4 supposedly coming ?

How you do think Mi 7 will compete with OnePlus 6, if you were to hazard a guess ?

Whichever I get I plan to use for 3 years minimum.

Please tell me at least one xiaomi device running miui that has received a stable global rom Oreo update?
According to your comment above, most xiaomi phones are already on Oreo.

    • Billy Williams
      March 5, 2018

You could have the answer to that question with a simple google search. But since you’re clarifying a “GLOBAL” ROM now, lets do a quick search as of this moment.

      Mi Note 2
      Mi 6
      Mi Mix 2
      Mi 5X
      Mi Note 3 (in beta)
      Have been updated.

      Mi Max
      Redmi Note

      Haven’t been.

Truth be told its kind of a moot point really because of custom ROM’s. But hey, an argument about nothing is still interesting. I think every single one of my Xiaomi devices is running a custom ROM, whether Lineage, Resurrection Remix, or Paranoid Android. I’m not a huge fan of MIUI but more importantly I prefer lighter ROM’s with more customization.

Mi Note 4 won’t be until November probably launched with the Mi Mix 3. The Mi 7 should be in the next couple months, with the OnePlus 6 coming around June/July.

I would probably guess that the OnePlus 6 is going to look very similar to the next Oppo device. So I expect to see small bezels, a notch similar to the IPhone X, their typical UI, pretty good cameras, extremely fast with good battery life. I have no idea what to expect from the Mi7. If I were a gambling man, I would expect the cameras on the Mi 7 to be head an shoulders above the OnePlus 6, I expect to see small bezels and equally fast processing. I would also throw the Huawei P20 into the mix if its cameras do anything close to what they are hinting at.

In the end it all comes down to what you like to do with your phone. The OnePlus Community is a modders paradise. Lots of interesting things to do with a OnePlus phone. And if you plan on keeping it for years…you should most definitely go with the Oneplus

      Partially true list.
Beta doesn’t count as it is not stable.

So far mi 6 received oreo just a few days ago (28 feb), not anywhere ahead of S8 as claimed.
These are still on oreo beta:
mi note 2, Mi Mix 2, mi 5x (doesn’t have a global one).

Do you think both the Mi Mix 2S & Mi 7 will have plenty of custom roms each and if so which phone would you choose out of the two ?

    • Billy Williams
      March 5, 2018

Im not sure. Both of these phones will come with Oreo and MIUI 9 out of the box. Xiaomi has a terrible track record of releasing their source code in a reliable time which sets custom ROM makes behind. But I would assume that the main ROMs would make it to both phones. Unless the Mi7 takes some sort of drastic departure from expectations which would require more work. But xiaomi has a really good custom ROM base anyway so it will get done

Please no, 6″ is already big enough. I love the looks of this phone, but I’ll likely wait for the Mi7 instead, presuming that this will be fitted with a 5,65″ 18:9 display (thus matching an Mi6 form factor size)
