Xiaomi is scheduled to hold an event at the Shenzhen Universiade Stadium at 14 o’clock on the May 31st where it is expected to launch the Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi Band 3 and MIUI 10. However, the location of this event was highly unexpected given that Xiaomi has never held a launch event in Shenzhen. In this regards, Lei Jun recently revealed that a Weibo user asked him why the company choose to unveil the Xiaomi Mi 8 in Shenzhen. Lei Jun said that despite the fact that Shenzhen is quite significant to Xiaomi (Xiaomi’s largest flagship store is in Shenzhen), the company has never held any launch event there so it choose Shenzhen.
Besides, since the launch of the flagship store in Shenzhen November last year, the city has gathered a large number of upstream supply chain manufacturers. With this conference, Xiaomi has now used Shanghai and Shenzhen for launch events and the company will continue to put more Chinese cities on its map as a strategy to keep up with the stiff competition in the Chinese smartphone market.
