Pixel Camera to add support for external microphone audio recording on October 18

If there is a consensus between Android smartphone enthusiasts is that Google Pixel’s software for the camera is among the best of the market. While the devices aren’t everyone’s piece of cake, the cameras are one of the best features from Pixel smartphones. This is a result from Google’s efforts in combining the best of hardware with a good software for achieving the best results with Pixel Camera app.

However, there is one important feature requested by users that are missing from the Pixel Camera, the ability to record audio through the use of high-quality external microphones. Currently, those who wish to record audio through external microphones need to rely on third-party camera applications. Thankfully, this will change soon.

Gizchina News of the week

An engineer from Google has just confirmed that the Pixel Camera app will soon be updated to support external mics on October 18. That’s exactly the same date when the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will start to be sold.

“Hi, folks — Isaac here from the Pixel Camera engineering team. I have been keeping an eye on this thread since the beginning and have good news. At the same time as Pixel 3 launch (October 18th), we will introduce support for Android-compatible plugged-in external microphones in the default camera app for all Pixels. I hope you all enjoy the update.”

Apparently, the feature will be introduced in the entire Pixel line and not only on the Pixel 3 and 3 XL. Of course, this will be another feature to put the Pixel smartphones among the best camera smartphones out there.
