Chinese OEMs has shipped 343 million smartphones this year – A 15% YoY decrease


Recently, theĀ Ministry of Industry and Information TechnologyĀ of China released the “Analysis Report on the Operation of theĀ DomesticĀ Mobile PhoneĀ MarketĀ in October 2018Ā “.Ā According to the report, in October, the domestic mobile phone market shipped 38.533 million units, a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 0.9% and a decrease of 1.3% from the previous month. From January to October 2018, the domestic mobile phone market shipped 343 million units, a 15.3% decrease year-on-year (YoY).

The report stated that 4GĀ smartphone shipment inĀ October wasĀ 36.419 million units, up 1.6% year-on-year, accounting for 94.5% of the entireĀ  domestic mobile phone shipments. As for 2G and 3G smartphones, they shippedĀ 2.014 million and 101,000 units respectively.Ā From January to October 2018, 2G mobile phone shipments reached 18.776 million units, down 19.1% year-on-year while 3G mobile phone shipments were 150,000 units, down 72.3% year-on-year. As expected, 4G smartphone shipments was 324 million units, down 15.0% year-on-year.Ā (Note: Dual 4G mobile phones refer to mobile phones that support bothĀ TD-LTEĀ andĀ LTEĀ FDD 4GĀ networkĀ standards).

The data shows that 48 new models were launched in October which represend a 25% decrease year-on-year and a 47.3% decrease relative to the previous month. The new models include 16 2G models and 32 4G smartphones. From January to October 2018, 683Ā new models were listed. This represents a 23% decrease year-on-year. The new models includes 160 2G phones, three 3G mobile phones, and 520 4G smartphones.
