Xiaomi's next
foldable is expected to launch in China on September 7. Just two days before
Apple reveals its own
foldable.
The 18 Fold could be one of the company's most ambitious phones yet. Full of cool specs. A good camera. And even if its a steep price for a
xiaomi, its worth it in my opinion. You wont get things like this from other folds.
Xiaomi's own chip
The
Xiaomi 18 Fold will use the company's Xring O3 processor. It's a 3nm chip and Xiaomi's biggest step into in-house silicon so far.
The phone is might also to use LPDDR6 memory from ChangXin Memory Technologies. That is a Chinese memory maker. That means Xiaomi could be combining its own processor with locally made RAM.
It's an interesting move and shows Xiaomi is becoming more serious about developing its own hardware.
The phone should also run HyperOS 4 based on Android 17.
A 6,000mAh battery
Battery capacity could be another strong point.
Leaks point to a large 6,000mAh batter. The device should also support 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
Xiaomi is focusing on battery life instead of making the phone as thin as possible. In my opinion that is a much better move.
Leica camera
The camera system will continue Xiaomi's partnership with Leica.
The main camera will use a 200MP sensor with a large 1/1.56-inch size. Two additional 50MP cameras will handle periscope telephoto and ultrawide shots.
Camera quality is still one of the weaker areas for many foldables. Companies often have to keep these phones thin. If Xiaomi manages to avoid that, the 18 Fold could be one of the better camera-focused foldables.
Display and pricing
The phone should feature a large inner foldable display. Also a smaller cover screen. Both are rumored to use ultra-thin glass. High brightness is also expected. Exact brightness numbers remain unclear for now.
Pricing could start at around $1,650. If true, that would make the Xiaomi 18 Fold the company's most expensive smartphone.
