Huawei is considering Mate F, Mate Flex, Mate Flexi or Mate Fold for its upcoming foldable phone


Chinese technology giant Huawei and its Korean archrival are said to be at the forefront of the foldable smartphone tech which should be one of the major smartphone breakthroughs in the coming year. The firm back in October at the launch of the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro officially confirmed that it is working on a foldable phone that will also sport 5G.

While we aren’t privy to any details beyond that, a new report from out of China suggests Huawei is in the process of choosing a suitable name for the upcoming foldable smartphone. The firm is currently contemplating four different monikers that will match the upcoming device, according to a document reviewed by Androidheadlines. The report has it that the upcoming foldable phone from Huawei will arrive as part of the Premium Mate series of Huawei phones. Specifically, the firm is currently on the verge of adopting either of the Mate F, Mate Flex, Mate Flexi, and Mate Fold monikers. The report says Samsung has actually moved to trademark all of the monikers, but we are not sure which will be given more preference.

The Huawei foldable phone when launched will take on the rumored Galaxy F from Samsung which is tipped to arrive early next year. While details remain scarce, reports have it that the Huawei foldable phone It also being suggested that Huawei foldable phone will come with larger displays of 8-inch and 5-inch both internally and externally. While the bendable OLED display is tipped to be supplied by Chinese BOE display maker, reports has it that Huawei may be considering using Balong 5000 5G modem for 5G connectivity in its upcoming foldable device.

We are not exactly sure when the device will hit the mass market, but reports say Huawei might showcase the device first at the upcoming MWC 2019.
