Gizchina News of the week

It is reported that in Q1 2019, Xiaomi shipped 5.3 million units, ranking first with an increase of 43.6%. Apple, on the other hand, shipped 4.6 million units, up 14.8% year-on-year. Then embattled Chinese manufacturer, Huawei, shipped 3.9 million units to rank third, up 213% year-on-year. Fitbit and Samsung shipped 2.9 million units and 2 million units to rank fourth and fifth respectively.

This is not the first time that Xiaomi will topple Apple in the wearable market. In the third quarter of 2018, Xiaomi came tops and the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 played a major role. It is worth mentioning that IDC has previously published a 2019 Q1 global wearable device shipment report, showing that Apple ranks first, but that statistics include Apple Watch, Airpods, and certain models of Beats headphones. In the current wearable device statistics, IDC only considered Apple Watch which creates a balance with other companies. With Xiaomi getting ready to unveil the Mi Band 4, Apple may have a hard time holding to the top position.
