Earlier this year, May 14th to be precise, Oneplus officially unveiled the Oneplus 7 and Oneplus 7 Pro. The announcement marked a new era for the Chinese smartphone maker, as it for the first time ever split its flagship offering into two – the Oneplus 7 and Oneplus 7 Pro with its 5G variant. Well, that isn’t the only device expected from the firm this year. The firm is expected to launch a mid-year refresh of the Oneplus 7 series later this year. Tentatively dubbed the Oneplus 7T and Oneplus 7T Pro, these devices had in the past few days surfaced on the rumor mill.

Gizchina News of the week

Though the company has yet to throw its weight behind the various Oneplus 7T and 7T rumors, CEO Pete Lau has something for us. The firm’s CEO in an interview yesterday confirmed that a new device is coming later in 2019. The exact identity of the said hasn’t been revealed, but we are convinced it could be the OnePlus 7T with 5G. This lines up with a recent release from US cellular Sprint which confirmed that it will launch a new 5G capable device with the Chinese firm later this year.

The CEO simply say the device will launch before the end of the year, and that could be Mi October if history repeats itself. 5G is all that is trending now, and expectedly, CEO Lau says any smartphone released in late 2019 must include 5G connectivity to be considered a “flagship.”

Details about the said Oneplus 5G phone are sparse, though we believe it could be the Oneplus 7T that is due for release in the coming months. The device, much like other mid-year releases from rival companies might come with the SD 855+. Anything below that might be received with tantrum even though there is hardly any difference between the SD855 and the SD 855+.
