Huawei has always been on the top of the DXoMark list. Even Apple and other top brands can’t compete with it. So the upcoming P-series handset causes a lot of stir around it. Today, Guo Minghao said in the report that Huawei will launch the P40 Pro smartphone with a newly designed periscope telephoto lens in the first half of 2020. Thus, the Huawei P40 Pro is the first to support 10x optical zoom.
Particularly, Guo Minghao pointed out in the report that Huawei’s high-end model P40 Pro is expected to sell for 4,000 to 5,000 yuan ($570 – $713) and ship about 9 million units in 2020.
Also, the report predicts that new models using the periscope telephoto lens will increase in 2020, including the Huawei P40, Huawei Nova’s high-end models, Honor’s high-end phones, and Mate’s high-end devices. Due to the increase in the number of smartphones with periscope telephoto lenses and the average selling price dropped to 2500 yuan to 3500 yuan ($356 – $499), shipments of periscope telephoto lenses will increase significantly to 28 million in 2020.
Guo Minghao believes that optical zoom will become the key to the configuration upgrade of high-end smartphones in 2020. He predicts that more high-end models will use periscope telephoto lenses in the coming months.
As Guo Minghao guesses new periscope telephoto lens for the Huawei P40 Pro supports 10x optical zoom. As a reminder, the previous generation P30 Pro’s periscope telephoto lens supports 5x optical zoom. The internal structure of the P40 Pro’s periscope telephoto lens is more complicated. It includes a newly designed prism and 2 new mirrors. This will help in extending the refraction path of light in the periscope telephoto lens.
