Due to the current Coronavirus epidemic in China, citizens are being forced to wear a mask. This brought up an issue smartphone users never had before: how do you unlock the device with Face ID when you’re wearing a mask? The issue mainly regarded Apple iPhone users as these only feature face recognition to unlock the handsets without inserting a password.
Apple Analyst: iPhone 9’s Successor Will Use a Side Fingerprint Scanner
Now, we don’t know if it’s because of the Coronavirus situation or Apple had already decided to take this path but, according to Chinese Apple analyst – Guo Mingxuan – from Tianfeng Securities, the iPhone 10 will be featuring a fingerprint scanner on the side when it will come out in the first half of 2021.
Apple’s iPhone 10 is basically the successor of the iPhone 9; which should officially launch in March this year. If you didn’t know, the iPhone is the device previously known as iPhone SE2. The smartphone is expected to pack a compact 4.7-inch LCD screen; while looking a lot like the older iPhone 8. This means the device will feature a Touch ID / Home button in the bottom bezel.
Either way, always according to Guo Mingxuan the iPhone 10 coming in 2021 will also equip a 4.7-inch display, but the Touch ID fingerprint scanner will be moved to the side. This new design shouldn’t be too difficult to implement for Apple as we’ve already seen it in many Android phones in the past.
As always, we suggest to take these reports with a grain of salt. We still haven’t seen the iPhone 9 so it’s very odd to already talk about its successor over a year in advance.
What do you guys think? Could Apple bring a side fingerprint scanner on the more affordable iPhone to finally reduce the size of the bottom bezel? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!
