Xiaomi officially announced today that the Xiaomi Mi 10 will use a 108-megapixel “Pro” imaging system to support functions such as HEIF format photos. Lei Jun said that the HEIF format can reduce the file size by at least 50% while maintaining the same image quality. HEIF is an efficient image file format based on the HEVC encoder. With a proper example, a 12.1MB JPG format image is only 4.43MB on HEIF format.

HEIF is High Efficiency Image File Format, which has the advantages of high compression efficiency and capacity saving. The file extension of HEIF format photos is usually .heif or .heic. Users can convert HEIF images through online tools or special software. The data shows that under the premise of the same picture quality, the compression rate of HEIC is 2.39 times that of JPEG.
