PhoneArena reports that Facebook tried to make its Android applications more beautiful through new features. Software engineer Jane Manchun Wong discovered this feature a few weeks ago when it was still in a very rough and ugly state. The adaptive color background harvesting version extracts colors from the picture to infer matching custom background colors.

Jane recently discovered a new update. It seems that Facebook is improving the feature to make it more beautiful and practical. Now, this feature no longer uses custom colors based on profile pictures but selects the closest color from preset colors. Thereby, it reduces the rough look and feels brought by the previous iteration.

Though the new Facebook feature is still in an experimental phase, we think these adaptive colors will start showing on Facebook in the coming weeks. But we should also note that there is every reason to think Facebook may add some further refinements. Say, it may add color gradients before launching the feature for the masses. Giving people more ways to express themselves is a good thing. But the esthetic benefits of adaptive color backgrounds are questionable at the moment.
By the way, the first quarter fiscal year 2020 financial report showed that Facebook’s first-quarter total revenue was $17.737 billion, an increase of 18% from the previous year’s $15.007 billion. The net profit was $4.902 billion. Compared with $2.429 billion of the same period last year, it was increased by 102%.
