Galaxy A series could get wireless charging feature soon

Samsung Electronics is considering the idea of adding wireless charging technology into the  Galaxy A series. According to reports, this decision by the company could be due to the shrinking mid-range segment in 2020.

According to Sammobile, reports from The Elec in Korea say that Samsung will add the wireless charging module in the mid-range Galaxy A smartphones as early as 2021. The company is reportedly negotiating with major partners like Hansol Technics. Others like Amotech and Chemtronics also seem to be the front runner for the initial contract.

Why did Samsung Choose Hansol Technics?

Samsung plans to drive the supply chain from Hansol Technics for about a month or two initially. According to reports, Hansol Technics is said to be one of the best suppliers of mid-range wireless charging modules.

Hence, Samsung is considering this supplier in the run-up to keep the costs as low as possible while not compromising on the quality. After the initial schedule, Chemtronics and Amotech are expected to join the bandwagon. They will build upon the mass production designs finalised by Hansol Technics.

Impact on the Pricing

Wireless charging tech still remains quite expensive. Samsung’s latest flagship S20 series also has the wireless charging tech which added to the expensive price tag. The above-mentioned suppliers delivered the charging tech for the South Korean giant’s latest Galaxy S20, S20+ and the S20 Ultra models.

However, the phones are struggling to sell well and Samsung is taking a lot of efforts to reduce the Charging module’s profit margin this year compared to last year.

Mid-range segment will be the Bullseye going forward

Samsung has so far kept the A series at a mid-range segment by lowering the specifications compared to flagships. However, with the outbreak of the virus, the mid-range segment has found the heat all of a sudden and companies are aiming to make the most out of it. The recently launched affordable iPhone SE 2020, and the upcoming Pixel 4A certainly reflects the above statement.

Adding to this, the Samsung Galaxy A51 has become the best selling smartphone worldwide in Q1 2020 and Samsung’s efforts to take a big scoop in the profit margin of the mid-range segment is something we will have to wait and see in the future.
