OPPO may launch an 80W fast charging SuperVOOC 3.0 next year

In the past few years, OPPO has been pushing the limits of fast charging. According to recent reports, the Chinese manufacturer will take a new step forward. A leakster recently revealed on Weibo that Oppo will launch SuperVOOC 3.0 with up to 80W power in 2021.

Recall that in 2019, Oppo debuted the SuperVOOC 2.0 with the Reno Ace. Subsequently, the company used this technology on some other high-end Oppo phones. The likes of the Find X2, Find X2 Pro, Oppo Ace 2 all use this technology. Realme X50 Pro implements the same technology under different names – SuperDart Flash Charge. All of these devices can fully charge large-capacity batteries in about 30 minutes.

If the technology is finally released, the charging time from 0 to 100% may drop to about 20 minutes. From 65W to 80W, the additional 15W may be very difficult. However, if OPPO can fulfill the 80W charging commitment, it can effectively set a new standard for the industry.

Technically, an 80W fast charge capacity will fill a 4,000 mAh battery in 15 minutes. That is an insanely fast amount of time to fill up a battery. However, such ultra-high charging speeds comes with its own shortcomings. When we charge batteries at such blistering speeds, it kills the battery performance in the long run. Furthermore, for such high charging speed, the device must come with an adequate heat dissipation solution.

This is the very first leak regarding the 80W fast charging SuperVOOC 3.0 from Oppo. As of now, the company has not made any official statement regarding this technology.
