Japanese manufacturing giant, Sony, has a lot on its hands as it is getting set to unveil the PlayStation 5 and other accessories. According to a recent report, the company has a new job posting which indicates that it is working on a new VR headset. The job posting mentions that Sony is developing a “next-generation VR head-mounted display”. Unfortunately, the posting did not mention PlayStation. Thus, there is no indication that this headgear will support Sony PlayStation.

Furthermore, the recruitment information shows that Sony has 15 new positions for the development of VR equipment. It is looking for professionals to work on the mechanical design of the lens barrel of the optical system. It also needs personnel who will be responsible for the miniaturization and lightweight debugging. In addition, the heat dissipation design is also a major aspect of this device that requires special technicians.

Looking at the job description advertised by Sony, it is evident that the research and development of this product is still in the early stages. This job posting is directly from Sony’s head office, not by SIE. Thus, it does not rule out the possibility that Sony is developing a new VR headset. Sony has previously stated that the existing PS VR is compatible with PS5 consoles. This also means that there will probably be no need for a new PS VR headsets in the short term.
