Smartphone manufacturers including Huawei have a whole staff of designers to make their products look modern, relevant and unusual. True, as time has shown, originality is far from the main design of most devices. Not infrequently we are faced with the fact that “everything has already been invented by someone before us”.
Especially in the matter of borrowing ideas. The Chinese succeeded, who for the most part began their campaign on the market by creating replicas of well-known devices. But if earlier they copied the products of A-brands, now they are not averse to seeing something interesting from their compatriots.
A few months ago, a patent appeared on the network for a folding Xiaomi smartphone. It surprisingly repeated the Huawei Mate X. And now Huawei itself is inspired by an idea from Xiaomi. Again, we will talk about a smartphone with a flexible display.
A patent has been posted online showing us a device that is surprisingly similar to the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha concept. But this is a creation of Huawei, and here the display bends around the body only on one side. Thanks to the “wrapping”, the screen managed to win back about 2/3 of the back cover of the device. The sketch of the smartphone is devoid of a front camera and it is logical to assume that its implementation was abandoned here. It will be possible to take selfies by the main camera. And the presence of the screen on the rear panel will be very useful here.
As always, speaking of a patent, let’s say that there is no guarantee that it will eventually find its embodiment in a commercial device.
Hongmeng OS 2.0 is official: mobile version to arrive in December
Yesterday, the 2020 Huawei Developer Conference was held in Songshan Lake, Dongguan. At this conference, the company officially released the Hongmeng OS 2.0 system. According to Wang Chenglu, president of Huawei’s consumer business software department, this system will open up new areas for Hongmeng. In addition to the Huawei Smart Screen which already uses the Hongmeng system, other devices like tablets and watches will use this system.
According to Huawei, the Hongmeng OS 2.0 system is the first operating system that is truly for the full-scenario era. It enables voice interaction through cross-device collaboration, large and small screen interaction, fast network distribution, adaptive UX, and visual/utterable AI. It adds wings to the imagination and becomes a powerful engine for ecological construction.
Furthermore, Yu Chengdong, said that it will launch the Hongmeng OS 2.0 Beta version for large screens, watches, and cars. However, the Hongmeng OS 2.0 mobile version will officially arrive in December. Huawei smartphones will fully support the Hongmeng OS system version 2.0 in 2021.
In addition, HarmonyOS will be officially open source, and developers will get emulators, SDK packages, and IDE tools. At the end of 2020, the beta version of HarmonyOS for smartphones will available to Chinese developers first.
In his speech, Yu Chengdong said Huawei donated the code to China’s Open Source Foundation and announced the HarmonyOS open source roadmap. “From September 10, HarmonyOS will be open source for 128KB-128MB terminal devices such as large screens, watches, and automobiles, and in April 2021, it will be open source for 128MB-4GB of memory. The end devices are open source and will be open source for all devices over 4GB after October 2021”.
