Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 will not upgrade to PS5 for free

Sony’s latest PlayStation 5 console is currently on pre-sale in different countries and it is selling swiftly. The company has since announced that 99% of PS4 games will be compatible with PS5. However, it appears that some of the games will not be upgradable for free, at least Marvel’s Spider-Man will not be. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition will include a complete remake of the original game “Marvel’s Spider-Man”.

Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4

In a recent statement, the company said

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered is an enhanced version of Marvel’s Spider-Man, and is included as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition for the PlayStation 5. In addition, players who purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 4 can upgrade at no additional cost to the PS5 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and can take advantage of a paid-upgrade to download Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered.

There are no plans currently to offer Marvel’s-Spider-Man: Remastered as a standalone. Players with a copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 can purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition to experience Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered on PS5. Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 also will be backwards compatible on PS5.

Simply put, Sony is saying that “Marvel’s Spider-Man” and “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition” are essentially two games. Although the latter includes a remake of the former, it is still not upgradeable. “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales”, is one of the first PS5 games that will arrive on November 12.

How much will players have to Pay?

Sony PS4 Players (Marvel Spider-Man) who need access to the Ultimate Edition on PS5 will have to buy it for $70 separately. However, if you already have the PS4 Spider-Man: Miles Morales, you need $20 “paid upgrade” to play the Ultimate Edition.

SSD is the key to PS5 performance improvement. The seek time of PS4 takes 2-50 seconds, while PS5 is almost instant. In terms of loading speed, PS5 can load 2GB of memory in 0.27 seconds, while PS4 takes 20 seconds to load 1GB. Sony believes that the new SSD will significantly speed up the PS5 game loading speed.
