Huawei’s smartphone market share will shrink to 4% next year

According to the latest forecasts, the well-known consumer electronics company Huawei will face a sharp decline in its share of the global smartphone market in 2021.

According to BusinessStandard, due to US sanctions, the Chinese manufacturer will occupy only 14% of the global smartphone market this year, and next year analysts give the company only 4%. Earlier this week, TrendForce researchers said continued restrictions from the US government would be the main reason behind such a significant decline in Huawei’s performance.

Earlier, the US Department of Commerce tightened restrictions on the company, which had already lost its main chip supplier, TSMC, and further disrupted its supply chain. The new rules also stripped Huawei of key software and technology advantages. Due to this, Huawei recently had to sell the Honor smartphone division.

The TrendForce forecast also points to other Chinese smartphone makers such as Xiaomi, Oppo and others that will take advantage of Huawei’s current situation to fill the vacant market share. Honor is also expected to compete more aggressively for the vacated space next year.

Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi topped the smartphone market in Q3 2020

Analytical agency Gartner has published another report on the smartphone market. As it turned out, in the third quarter of this year, 366 million smartphones were sold worldwide, which is 5.7% less than in the same period last year. And although the drop is noticeable, it is less than 20%, which the market fell by in the first half of the year.

Samsung is still the leader with 80.82 million units sold and 22% of the market. In general, of the Top 5 manufacturers, only Samsung and Xiaomi were able to increase sales – by 2.2% and 34.9%, respectively. Huawei is in second place with 51.83 million smartphones sold – its market share is 14.4%. Xiaomi sold 44.41 million smartphones – equivalent to a market share of 12.1%.

Apple is in fourth place. Between July and September, the company sold 40.6 million smartphones – its market share was 11.1%. Interestingly, Oppo is not far from Apple: in the third quarter, it sold 29.89 million smartphones (the market share of this company is 8.2%).

Samsung and Huawei are the current leaders in the 5G smartphone market

Analytical agency Counterpoint Research has shared data on the study of the 5G segment of the global smartphone market in the first month of autumn. The world’s best-selling model is the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G. The flagship of the South Korean company in most countries of the world is sold with the Snapdragon 865 processor; but Europeans have to be content with the version on the Exynos 990. The smartphone took 5% of the market.

The top 3 includes two Huawei models. The second was the flagship Huawei P40 Pro, and the third place was taken by the mid-range Huawei nova 7. Their share was 4.5% and 4.3%, respectively. In the case of the nova 7 model, global sales can be equated to Chinese ones; because the smartphone is not for sale outside the Middle Kingdom.

Two more flagships of 2020 by Samsung have closed the top 5. 4% of the market was taken by the Samsung Galaxy S20 + 5G, while the share of the Galaxy Note 20 5G was 2.9%. As with the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G, the processor varies by region.

Note that the alignment of forces on the market may change significantly this month; since the iPhone 12 and Huawei Mate 40 families have appeared on sale. If the flagships of the Chinese company are unlikely to be in great demand; then four variants of the iPhone 12 have every chance of crushing the market, given how popular their predecessors were at the start of sales.
