According to reports from Huawei executives, its internal system needs to cross “16% market share” as soon as possible. Specifically, the target of the company is that it crosses this benchmark by the end of this year. For any ecosystem, especially one as complex as an operating system, software usage, and market share are the core factors that determine whether it can survive and succeed.

However, HarmonyOS has been in development for about 5 to 7 years. As the development of this operating system continues, achieving its goals becomes more challenging. Yang Haisong, vice president of Huawei’s consumer business and AI business department, said in an interview: “It will take one year to complete the road that others have taken in five years.”

From its statement, Huawei will not need so much time to achieve its goals. As of now, we do not know if the company has the necessary infrastructure to achieve this feat. Huawei has been emphasizing “cooperation” in other to build the operating system. For Huawei, a win-win situation is possible through intelligent hardware and developer ecosystem innovation.

Many non-Huawei devices already use HarmonyOS

Huawei needs other manufacturers to launch products with this system if it wants to achieve its goals. Well, the company already has some manufacturers in its portfolio. Last year, Midea unveiled no less than 10 products with HarmonyOS. This year, a Midea steaming and cooking stove became the first HarmonyOS eco-device to be put on the Huawei Mall.

At the China Home Appliances and Consumer Electronics Expo in March this year, brands such as Haier, Shuaikang, Supor, Fangtai, Joyoung, and other brands also displayed several products with HarmonyOS. According to officials, these products will be in the market later this year.

According to Huawei, HarmonyOS requires minimal connection, light apps, and offers seamless interconnectivity. It believes that these are the reasons why other partners are joining the ecosystem. Furthermore, Huawei believes that HarmonyOS will help hardware manufacturers to improve user experience and service access efficiency.
