Yesterday, during trading on the stock exchange, Microsoft shares at a certain point reached the rate of $ 265.79, thanks to which the capitalization of the Redmond corporation exceeded the symbolic mark of $ 2 trillion. This happened for the first time in the history of the company.
Microsoft reaches $ 2 trillion market cap for the first time
At the close of trading, Microsoft’s shares were worth $ 265.51; just a little short of the $ 265.55 mark needed to secure the company’s market value at $ 2 trillion. As a result, Apple retained the title of the only company whose capitalization exceeds $ 2 trillion. For the first time, this figure, which is still a record, was achieved in August last year.
Since going public 35 years ago, it took Microsoft 33 years to cross the $ 1 trillion mark, and another 2 years to reach $ 2 trillion. Now heightened interest in the company’s shares is due to the imminent announcement of Windows 11, which will take place tomorrow.
Note that Microsoft shares were once traded at much higher prices. So, during the “dot-com bubble” the rate reached $ 614.7. This happened on December 27, 1999.
Microsoft shares rise to record highs ahead of Windows 11 presentation
It became known that the value of Microsoft shares reached an all-time high after rising by 1.3% to $ 263.52 per share on Monday June 21st.
Positive dynamics is observed against the background of the upcoming event, which is dedicated to the Windows software platform and will be held on June 24. As part of this presentation, the developers are expected to officially unveil the “new generation of Windows”, which Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced a few months ago at the Microsoft Build conference.
Last week, an ISO image of one of the preliminary versions of Windows 11 appeared on the Internet; which we expect to see at an upcoming Microsoft event. This provided more information on what users should expect from developers. It is difficult to say how accurately the definition of “next-generation Windows” characterizes Windows 11; but they did a lot of work on the platform’s user interface. Microsoft has updated many of the interface elements, replaced the system icons with more modern ones; and also added some elements from Windows 10X; which is a modular operating system whose development was stopped earlier this year.
Recall that currently, Windows 10 is the current version of the OS. It was available in July 2015 and receives two major updates every year. Microsoft also announced this year that support for Windows 10 Home and Pro will officially end in late 2025.
