Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra to use the Snapdragon 895+ & a 108MP camera

By convention, Samsung will be one of the first manufacturers to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 895 processor. The first model to use this chip will be the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. Now, there are more details regarding the annual flagship. A report from @IceUniverse claims that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will not use a 200MP camera. Rather, this flagship will upgrade the 108MP sensor, the third generation.

On the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, the company used the HM3 sensor. This sensor uses the Super PD Plus phase focusing function and adds a microlens above the phase focusing point, thereby increasing the focusing speed by 50%. From the reports so far, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will also retain the HM3 sensor. However, it will come with a new ISP and software algorithm tuning.

Gizchina News of the week

It is worth noting that there are reports that Samsung will cooperate with Olympus for the camera of the Galaxy S22 series. Huawei has been cooperating with Leica for a long time. The Chinese manufacturer has been ranking first in the camera department on DxOMark for quite some time. OnePlus also began to cooperate with Hasselblad for the camera of the OnePlus 9 series. Therefore, Olympus may also join hands with Samsung to improve the image performance of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 standard model will come with a 6.06 – 6.1 inch display. However, the Galaxy S22+ will use a 6.5 – 6.6 inch screen while the flagship model, S22 Ultra, will have a 6.8 inches screen. The screen size of the Galaxy S22 and S22+ will be smaller than those currently on sale. Nevertheless, the Ultra version will not change. Furthermore, the report also shows that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will come with an OLED display that uses LTPO technology.

The current Galaxy S21 Ultra uses an Infinity-O screen with a resolution of 3200 × 1440. This display is HDR10+ certified and supports an adaptive refresh rate of 10 – 120Hz. However, the Galaxy S22 series is expected to use a lower refresh rate and reduce energy consumption.

Looking at the leak, this is only a section of the major specification of this series. There is much more information that we do not have for now. As for the on-screen camera technology, this feature is not ready for Samsung and will not come with the Galaxy S22.

After the launch of the Galaxy S21 series, we had the official confirmation that the company did not use the 3D ToF sensor. Samsung has high regard for this sensor and it has been present in many of its flagships like the Galaxy S10 5G and the Galaxy S20 Ultra. The Samsung Galaxy S22 series will also not come with the 3D ToF sensor
