Huawei’s issues will be over in 2022 – Mate 50 to use the SD898 5G SoC

Huawei P50

The recently released Huawei P50 series has two versions with Snapdragon 888 and Kirin 9000 SoCs. Unfortunately, none of these devices support 5G, they only support 4G network. The impact of this is already showing in the market. After the launch of the Huawei P50 series, old models that support 5G such as Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 40 saw an increase in their prices. This is because users consider old models with 5G to be better than newer 4G smartphones. This problem is not easy to solve, but it is not impossible to bypass the 5G restrictions from the U.S. According to the latest report, Huawei will be able to solve the 5G problem in 2022.

The main reason why the Huawei P50 does not support 5G is the U.S. ban. This is because Huawei can not purchase components related to 5G from American companies. It can not even purchase these products from any company that uses American technology. Here lies Huawei’s major problem.

Gizchina News of the week

There are two types of waves for 5G devices – Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) and Bulk Acoustic Waves (BAW). Among them, due to various reasons such as performance and technology, BAW is the first choice for 5G mobile phones. Data show that in the BAW market, the United States Broadcom (Broadcom, AVAGO) accounts for 87% of the global market. In addition, another US semiconductor company, Qorvo, accounts for 8% of the market share. This means that 95% of the BAW global market is from American companies. In addition, SAW is also monopolized by the United States and Japan. The likes of Murata and TDK have a strong grip on the market with almost 70% market share globally.

This means that the main technology of the core filter in the 5G radio frequency chip comes from the United States. It is precisely this step that Huawei cannot bypass, which leads to the 5G shortcomings of the Huawei P50 series.

From the current situation, 5G RF is highly monopolized and the region with the monopoly is obviously abusing its advancement. However, there are reports that Huawei and the Chinese industry are moving faster than anticipated. According to Huawei’s supply chain, the Huawei Mate 50 will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 898 chip. By the second quarter of 2022, Huawei will be back to the normal 5G smartphone business. According to the supply chain, the accuracy of this news is as high as 90%. This means that Huawei will get a Chinese 5G RF chip soon.
