Wide Phones Without Folds Could Change Your Next Upgrade

Phones may soon get wider instead of taller. Tipsters say several Android brands plan wide, non-folding phones for 2027. OPPO is said to lead, Honor follows, Xiaomi is reportedly working on one, and vivo wants a compact model with a screen under 6.5 inches. None of this is official yet. Here is what is known so far. Still, the idea could change how small phones look and feel.

What the leaks say about vivo

Digital Chat Station says vivo is preparing a small wide phone for next year. The screen would stay within 6.5 inches. Compact phones are rare today, so a wide model with top specs would fill a real gap. The tipster expects top hardware and a strong focus on cameras. The tipster also says software adaptation is much simpler than on wide foldables. That matters, because apps often look odd on unusual screen shapes. Honor is also said to be in the race, but leaks about its model are thin. Still, vivo has shown no design or specs, so every detail can change.

OPPO is said to lead the race

OPPO’s wide phone has the most leaked detail. It reportedly uses a 16:9 display with thin bezels of about 1mm. If true, the thin bezels would match the look of Huawei’s wide slab. Reports mention a screen of roughly 6.35 inches, two 200MP cameras and an 8,000mAh battery. One rumor calls it the Reno X, and another says it could arrive alongside the Find X10 Ultra. All of this comes from tipsters, and OPPO has confirmed nothing.

Why brands want this shape

Wide foldables set the trend first. Huawei released the Pura X Max in April, and Apple launched the iPhone Duo in October. Samsung has the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Brands now want that cover-screen shape without a hinge, a crease or a high price. In other words, the wide shape is moving from foldables to ordinary phones. Huawei already sells a similar slab, the Pura X View, which shows the idea can work. Xiaomi is also reported to be testing a wide slab with a side fingerprint scanner.

What buyers should watch

Early plans may change before 2027, and no brand has shown a finished phone. A wide screen can help video and split-screen use, but it may feel awkward in one hand. Wide phones under 6.5 inches could suit people who find current flagships too large. Buyers who like small phones should wait for real hands-on tests. Price also matters, since a new shape often costs more at first. For now, this is a trend to follow, not a reason to delay a purchase.
