New Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Leak Shows Disappointing Camera Setup

Galaxy S22 Ultra

A new Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra leak suggests that the much-awaited smartphone will not be as much of an upgraded model as expected. The rumor mill has been churning out a lot of speculations surrounding the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Regrettably, these high expectations will have to be toned down if fresh information coming from a reputable source is anything to go by. Despite the lack of an official confirmation, earlier reports claim that the S22 Ultra will be a feature-laden smartphone. The Galaxy S22 Ultra has been subject to multiple leaks lately.

The word on the street is that the phone will be a major upgrade over its predecessor. Last month, a report indicated that the forthcoming phone from Samsung will sport the brightest screen yet. The Galaxy S22 series is slated to launch in 2022 featuring three models. These include the S22 Ultra, S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 smartphones. Considering that the S21 series went official in January, it is speculated that the Galaxy S22 series could go official after just two months from now. However, a new leak suggests that there will be nothing much to shout about.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra New Leak

It seems that Samsung fans that have restlessly been waiting to get their hands on the Galaxy S22 Ultra are in for a huge disappointment. Previously surfaced reports have teased the presence of a mammoth 200MP camera on the next-gen flagship. However, noted tipster Ice Universe claims that will not be happening. According to the leaker, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will house a camera setup similar to the existing Galaxy S21 Ultra. The leaker suggests that the S22 Ultra will come with an upgraded version of the 108MP Isocell HM3 sensor, which is currently available on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Aside from that, the rear-mounted camera setup will remain the same.

In other words, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will house a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x, and another 10MP camera with 10x zoom. The most notable improvement seems to be in the telephoto cameras of the upcoming flagship. These telephoto cameras will reportedly feature the new Sony 1/3.52” sensors. According to Ice Universe, the pixels of the new sensors are slightly smaller compared to the previous versions that delivered 1.12μm Vs 1.22μm. For those who are unaware, smaller pixels usually deliver lower image quality.

Other Expected Changes

Furthermore, there could be a one-degree increase as far as the field of view on the 3x and 10x zoom lenses are concerned. This inconsistency can be attributed to rounding inaccuracies. However, it is worth mentioning here that the main lens’ field of view seemingly changes in the other direction. For instance, it could go from S21 Ultra’s 83 degrees to offering 85 degrees on the S22 Ultra. Nevertheless, the change will probably not make a significant difference.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Aside from lens and sensor specifications, there is a lot more to a camera. So, there is still a possibility that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will perform better than the S21 Ultra, despite packing similar hardware. However, the South Korean tech company will need to make some notable improvements in a bid to achieve impressive camera scores in various tests including Dxomark. It is still unclear how this adjusted camera setup will perform.
